In 2021, a new chapter began for ZILLION, a brand brimming with limitless potential.
It is neither ‘million’, meaning one million, nor ‘billion’, meaning one billion.
There is no longer any falsehood in that title, which symbolises a metaphysical, astronomical figure—in short, infinity.
Carrying on the legacy of a tough model built to withstand hard work,
Both the inside and the side offer an endless array of features.
All of them succeeded in achieving a boost.
It’s fair to say that it has now redefined every benchmark.
NEW ZILLION, now is the time to speak out.

INTRODUCTION
If we at DAIWAWORKS were to sum up in a single word what we seek in a twin-reel, it would be ‘usability’. A machine that every angler can master will never let them down. Even when faced with unforeseen situations, the specifications that provide the confidence to draw out maximum performance—the three pillars of durability, rotational performance and operability—are what make this possible. It is only when all three work in perfect synchronisation that this is achieved. Until now, DAIWA has focused solely on promoting its technology that stands out from the rest, deliberately refraining from publicising the numerous accompanying features to avoid over-complicating matters. In 2021, DAIWA reaffirms that its technology and experience are its greatest assets. With the launch of the NEW ZILLION, we have decided to unveil the full scope of DAIWA’s technology to the world.
System & Technology
DAIWA Technology

HYPERDRIVE DESIGN
A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.

HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR
A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.

HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT
A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.

HYPER ARMED HOUSING (AL)
A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined winding feel and power. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential, and its combination with the side plates and set plates ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.
In this series, aluminium alloy is used for the frame, the gear-side side plate and the dial-side set plate. It features a full-metal housing design that delivers unrivalled strength and durability.

HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.

UTD (Ultimate Tournament Drag)
DAIWA’s drag system eliminates the initial hesitation when the drag first engages, delivering smooth, consistent performance without any jerking, whilst also offering maximum Drag Force that increases the tighter it is set.

ZERO ADJUSTER
By first adjusting the ‘ZERO ADJUSTER’ and setting the ‘Spool Play Zero’ function, the evolution of the magnetic brake system now makes it possible to control all lures using the magnet dial alone.
The ‘ZERO ADJUSTER’ is a mechanism designed to ensure you can enjoy a comfortable fishing experience without any malfunctions whilst fishing, by adjusting it to the ‘zero setting’ before you start fishing.
*The ‘Zero Spool Play’ setting refers to the setting at which the spool is held just at the limit of not being pressed, whilst retaining a slight amount of play (approximately 0.2 mm).

ZERO SHAFT
The spool is supported solely by the BB. The shaftless design eliminates all excess resistance, resulting in ideal spool rotation.
In short, it is the cornerstone of a high-output engine designed to prioritise casting performance above all else.

TWS (T-WING SYSTEM)
TWS has succeeded in significantly reducing resistance at the line guide closest to the spool—the point where spool rotation speed is at its highest. By minimising resistance that impedes casting distance, it not only improves casting distance and control beyond previous levels, but also enables a faster fall and reduces Backlash. This realises a new level of line winding capability not only during reeling but also during the casting action.

■Handle
Shooting and Reeling: High-Spec Steel
Measuring 90 mm in total length, it is designed for power fishing in both casting and reeling. Like the housing, it is made from aluminium, which combines excellent strength with a lightweight feel. The high-precision handle, precision-machined from a solid aluminium billet with absolute accuracy, maintains outstanding strength thanks to its substantial wall thickness. Its offset design, which brings the handle closer to the centre of the rotation axis, delivers a more stable reeling feel.
Lightweight and slim, the I-shaped knob—designed to promote a smooth reeling action—features high-grip rubber that seems to cling to your fingers. Its exceptional grip is particularly noteworthy: it remains slip-free even when wet from rain and adapts perfectly to the pads of your fingers, even when they are dry and cold. Even during an unexpected strike, it allows your finger to grip the knob precisely, enabling an immediate turn of the handle. No compromises have been made, down to the finest detail, to ensure you land your catch without letting it escape.

■SV-BOOST
SV Concept Upgraded to Ver. 2021: Delivering that extra boost in the latter half of the cast
Unlike conventional SV spools, this brake unit combines a spool with a low moment of inertia with an inductor rotor capable of generating significant braking force during over-rotation, thereby delivering the appropriate level of braking force for every type of lure.
This mechanism, which provides a consistent braking force that is neither too strong nor too weak, has become widely recognised as a feature that ensures safe casting at all times.
DAIWA’s next goal was to develop the ‘SV-BOOST’ spool, designed to achieve that extra bit of distance in the latter stages of the cast whilst retaining the SV’s distinctive characteristics.

Whilst the MagForce system, with its fixed induction rotor, is constantly subjected to braking force, the SV system—which employs a two-stage control mechanism with the induction rotor switched on and off—allows the applied braking force to follow a curve and converge when the Spool is spinning at high speed. SV-BOOST achieves that extra burst of speed by switching to a further, gentler stage of braking force during the latter half of the cast.
The SV Spool—the mechanism at the very heart of the SV concept—has undergone yet another evolution. This is the new ‘SV-BOOST’, a construction that sets the standard for the future.
The term ‘conventional SV spool’ refers to a spool unit comprising a spool with a low moment of inertia and an inductor rotor capable of generating significant braking force during over-rotation. Its outstanding characteristics are recognised for enhancing compatibility with a wide range of lures, from lightweight to heavyweight models, whilst delivering trouble-free and smooth casting performance thanks to its lightweight, high-precision spool design.
However, the new SV-BOOST mechanism is more than just a spool unit. Thanks to the evolution of the AIR brake system, it has made it possible to take the ‘Stressfree’ and ‘Versatile’ concept itself to the next level.
Its most distinctive feature is a mechanism in which the inductor rotor extends in two stages, effectively controlling Spool rotation through ‘three-stage braking force’. Through the control of the coil spring, it harbours the potential for an additional stage of stroke beyond the existing one.
With conventional SV+AIR brake systems, spool rotation is controlled via just two settings: ON or OFF. During high-speed rotation—such as during finesse or full casts—the inductor rotor is switched ON, causing the spool to extend instantly to control the initial speed. Conversely, during low-speed rotation—such as when pitching—the spool does not extend and remains in the OFF position, allowing even lightweight lures to rotate freely without being affected by the magnetic field.
The advantage of the SV is that it delivers consistently trouble-free performance whilst offering excellent casting distance even with minimal effort. Its rock-solid, stress-free performance across a wide range of practical bass fishing scenarios can certainly be said to have perfectly met the needs of the modern angler.
However, on the other hand, with a two-stage control system, the ‘ON’ state persisted right up until the moment of landing, which could be said to have left something to be desired in terms of that final burst of distance. Whilst the SV’s lightweight spool allows for high rotational speed and stress-free braking performance, during full casts, precisely because of this high rotational speed, anglers tended to increase the braking force in an attempt to avoid problems. As a result, the distance gained in the latter half of the cast was easily compromised.
DAIWA has revolutionised the conventional two-stage ‘ON/OFF’ brake mechanism. Where previously the brake force was limited to either 0 or 2—two extremes—a third stage, ‘1’, has been added. Whilst the minimum and maximum brake forces remain unchanged, this now provides a total of three brake force stages. This is the basic structure of the SV-BOOST system.
The SV-BOOST’s inductor rotor instantly reaches Brake Force 2—that is, Stage 3—during a full cast. It applies braking force instantly at Spool speeds of 15,000 rpm or higher (*revolutions per minute), thereby controlling excessive rotation. Firstly, it prevents backlash in the over-rotation zone immediately after the Spool starts to turn; however, what is particularly noteworthy is the activation of the inductor that occurs immediately afterwards.
With a conventional two-stage brake system, the spool would transition from ‘ON’ to ‘OFF’—allowing it to rotate FREE—just before the Lure hits the water. However, with SV-BOOST, as soon as the Lure passes the apex of its trajectory and begins to lose speed, the system controls a second backlash zone caused by spool overspeed; immediately afterwards, the braking force switches to Level 1 (i.e. Stage 2), thereby preventing excessive braking. It applies a mild braking force in the 5,000 rpm range to prevent excessive line release, before switching completely to ‘OFF’ just before the lure hits the water. By gradually easing the control rather than maintaining strong control, the system successfully achieves that extra stretch in the latter half of the cast trajectory.
Furthermore, in Finesse Cast mode, the induction rotor applies braking up to Brake 1, i.e. Stage 2. As with the latter half of a Full Cast, this maintains the optimum braking force.
It is precisely this three-stage structure that constitutes the greatest advantage of the SV-BOOST. Whether at low or high revs, its automatic control system—which responds to the angler’s casting input—has succeeded in delivering consistent, trouble-free extension during the latter stages of the cast. Whilst distance tests showed an actual increase of 4 per cent, the extension in the latter stages of the cast represents an even greater evolution, delivering both a crisp, responsive casting feel and improved accuracy on low-trajectory casts.

SV-BOOST delivers three stages of braking force. During a full cast, the Induct Rotor instantly engages at Braking Force Level 2 to control excessive Spool rotation. Once the Spool has passed its peak and begins to slow, it is controlled once more at Braking Force Level 1 before returning to Braking Force Level 0. The additional stage of braking force provided by SV-BOOST contributes to that extra burst of speed in the latter stages of the cast, without the need to increase the Mag Dial setting.

■G1 DURALMIN Spool [G1 Duralumin Spool]
by SV CONCEPT
Unique in its ability to combine lightness and strength.
G1 duralumin is a special aluminium-based alloy that offers twice the strength of magnesium and 1.3 times that of ultra-high-strength duralumin. This material, which maintains both ultra-lightweight properties and excellent rigidity, is the highest grade of lightweight alloy used in applications such as aircraft structural components and precision equipment. To achieve an overwhelming sense of lightness whilst maintaining the same strength, the spool’s line-winding surface is not blanked but simply thinned to a minimal thickness, yet still retains ample strength. The high rotational response afforded by its lightness, combined with the unparalleled precision of rotation resulting from its high rigidity, is unrivalled.

■MAGNET BRAKE [Magnet Brake]
A current in the magnetic field optimally controls rotation (also known as an electromagnetic induction brake)
This is DAIWA’s proprietary electromagnetic induction brake system, which utilises specially designed, ultra-powerful magnets produced by sintering neodymium. The mechanism works as follows: when an electric current is generated between the opposing magnets in the magnet unit, an electromagnetic force acts on the inductor rotor—a conductor mounted on the Spool—in the opposite direction to its natural rotation, thereby generating braking force. It is important to note that this is not simply a case of magnetic force suppressing the rotation of the Spool.

*The reel capacity is a guide only and may vary depending on the manufacturer, items and line tension.
*The retrieve length is the amount of line wound in with each handle rotation.
*Regarding the sound made during casting*
With spools featuring the BOOST structure, a ‘click’ sound may be heard as the inductor rotor retracts during casting (when the Lure is in flight). Regarding the inductor rotor, which controls braking force, the BOOST system maximises Long Casting performance by returning the rotor faster and with greater force than conventional models, whilst also utilising a longer operating stroke. The return sound of the inductor rotor may be louder than on conventional reels, but this is not a fault. The BOOST system is designed to produce up to two clicks via a two-stage operation, and the volume and frequency of these clicks vary depending on the force applied during Casting.
