Q
I hear a loud noise when casting with my baitcasting reel. What do I do?
A
First, check the ball bearings on the side plates (one is sitting inside the mag brake and one is under the spool tension knob), and/or on the spool itself (varies from model to model). Then, apply a drop of oil on the ball bearing. If this does not fix the issues, contact Daiwa service at service@daiwa-scandinavia.com
Q
The line keeps coming out even when I tighten the drag. What do I do?
A
In most cases this is caused by braided line and the line itself is slipping on the spool as it doesn't have proper backing. Undo the line and respool it with a little piece of tape or monofilament line before spooling the braided one. If the spool is moving with the line, there might be an issue with the brake system. In this situation, contact service. If the line is coming out but the spool is sitting still, the line is slipping on the spool and following the steps above will fix the problem.
Q
Do I need to maintain my reel during the warranty period?
A
Absolutely! Maintaining the reel prolongs its lifespan and prevents major malfunctions. Daiwa warranty covers defects in the manufacturing process, the materials, and the finish of the reel. However, this does not include normal wear and tear or misuse/abuse of the reel.
Q
I have a mag-sealed reel. Does this mean it is waterproof?
A
No! Mag-seal means that there is resistance against spray water and dust/dirt but it does by no means mean that the whole reel is waterproof. The reel should not be submerged or left out in the elements for a prolonged time.
Q
How often should I service my reel?
A
If you fish in saltwater, service the reel at least twice per season so that saltwater residue does not build up inside it. For freshwater fishing, you can go with a thorough service once per season or two. The service frequency can be extended by proper maintenance of the reel: Store the reel well and rinse of excess saltwater after fishing.
Q
How do I wash my reel?
A
You can rinse the reel in your sink or even in the shower with cold water (hot water tends to loosen the grease inside the reel). Tighten up the drag all the way and hold the handle in place (baitcaster) so that no parts are moving whilst you rinse the reel. You can gently rub the reel with your fingers, so any deposits of salt get loosened and rinsed off. You can also do this with a damp washcloth if you do not want to submerge your reel in the sink. You can spin the handle knobs whilst rinsing to get any dirt and salt off, but make sure not to move the handle so the parts inside the reel keep still while washing. After rinsing, you can dry the reel with a towel. Store the clean reel in a warm and well-ventilated area.
Q
I dropped my reel in the lake/ocean. What do I do?
A
If the reel gets completely submerged in saltwater, we recommend sending it for service immediately as salt water may start damaging the internal components within days. We will clean the inside of the reel from any saltwater residue. As a "first-aid," you can rinse the reel and shake off excess water. At home, take off the spool and handle (possibly also the sideplate on a baitcaster) and leave them to dry in a warm and well-ventilated area before sending them to service. For fresh water, it is recommended that reels get stripped and rebuilt after being dunked. However, risk of damage is not as immediate as with saltwater.
Q
How can I send my reel to service?
A
You can contact any local Daiwa dealer and ask them to send in the reel for service. If you do not have any retailers within a reasonable range from where you live, please contact us at service@daiwa-scandinavia.com for help.
Q
What do I need to do to the reel when I send it in for service?
A
Please pack the reel properly so it does not get damaged during transport. Fill out our service form with all the details about the fault on the reel and your contact information so we can return the reel once it is serviced. Our service form can be found on our website. Please visit the SERVICE AND WARRANTY.
Q
How much does service cost and what does it include?
A
Normal service is 39€. We take apart the reel and clean all the parts after which we reassemble the reel and apply fresh grease. The service fee includes shipping the reel back to the customer. If any parts need to be replaced, we will charge extra. On the service form, you may indicate your preferred maximum cost for the service and parts.
