Since its founding in 1958, DAIWA has consistently developed products that swiftly respond to market needs.
In the process, we have developed a number of the world's first technologies. Our expertise in reel manufacturing is particularly renowned, earning us the reputation as "DAIWA, the Reel Specialist" within just a few years of our founding.

Our I-type reel (in-spool), developed as an export-oriented model for the American market
From In-Spool to Out-Spool
Unlike previous inspool models, placing the spool on the outside of the reel allowed for greater line capacity, faster rotation, and improved winding performance. The arrival of this completely new reel design shocked anglers worldwide, earning DAIWA the reputation as "the Reel Company" within just a few years of its founding.
DAIWA's New Material Development
When discussing DAIWA technology, new material development is indispensable.
DAIWA was particularly quick to focus on carbon, becoming the first in the world to adopt carbon graphite material for both the reel body and rotor in 1979.

DAIWA also employed high-purity carbon in its rods, cementing its global reputation as "the Carbon Specialist."
After numerous refinements and new developments,
DAIWA developed "ZAION," a high-density carbon material surpassing metals in 2007.

The Creation of MAGSEALED established a new standard.
Then in 2010, DAIWA technology joined forces with the pinnacle of technology: "aerospace engineering."
Developing the "MAGSEALED" technology was a milestone in fishing history.

This waterproof and dustproof function utilizes a special liquid material called "magnetic fluid," maintaining the reel's initial performance and achieving high rotation speed.
It freed anglers from many stresses and created a new era for reels.

This passion for technological development
continues to run strongly through DAIWA's engineers today.
We want to give anglers surprises and excitement...
DAIWA technology continues to evolve unceasingly,
for those who love fishing.
