Special surface treatment has been added to increase the hardness of the drive gear and water resistance has been improved on the handle side. In addition, the drags and pinions of some of the larger models are reinforced to Saltiga equivalent specifications.

AIRDRIVE DESIGN
AIRDRIVE DESIGN – Lightness, Power & Precision Combined: AIRDRIVE DESIGN represents Daiwa’s cutting-edge innovation in spinning reel engineering, built around four core components—AIRDRIVE ROTOR, AIRDRIVE BAIL, AIRDRIVE SPOOL, and AIRDRIVE SHAFT. This integrated system delivers unmatched lightness, responsiveness, and control to elevate the angling experience. The AIRDRIVE ROTOR, made from lightweight ZAION material, is 16% lighter than previous designs, reducing inertia for smoother, more responsive rotation. The AIRDRIVE BAIL, featuring a slimmer, hollow structure, cuts weight by 33%, improving line flow and minimizing tangles. AIRDRIVE SPOOL contributes to overall weight reduction and balance while enhancing oscillation performance. The AIRDRIVE SHAFT, with its non-contact design supported by dual bearings, minimizes friction for quieter rotation and improved torque. Together, these technologies deliver refined lure control, effortless casting, and powerful reeling—setting a new benchmark in spinning reel design.
AIRDRIVE ROTOR
Low inertia is the key.
The newly developed AIRDRIVE ROTOR is made from ZAION. Maintaining the strength of the rotor from 18 EXIST, DAIWA has been able to reduce the weight significantly. Designed with focus to create a perfectly round structure, trouble free and flawless rotation have been achieved.
The rotor unit itself has seen a 16% weight reduction compared to the previous model (Based on 2500 size reel) and will set the standard for what future rotor design of small spinning reels will be.
AIRDRIVE BAIL
Trouble free future.
DAIWA has constructed a bail smaller in diameter whilst providing required strength to achieve a further weight reduction to the front unit. In comparison to 18 EXIST, AIRDRIVE BAIL reduces the weight of the bail by 33% (compared to 2500 size).
DAIWA has adjusted the angle of bail setting to improve the line movement into the roller. Careful attention was given to the roller and slider and individual design alterations were done for each size of 22 EXIST, perfectly adjusting the line management for each size of the reel.
AIRDRIVE SPOOL
Design reflects the future.
The stand out features of the AIRDRIVE SPOOL would have to be the newly shaped spool skirt and the simple single silver coloured cosmetic. Just by looking at the spool it is clear the structure has been redeveloped, reducing the weight and maximising the feeling of presence.
Reducing the spool weight creates many benefits for a reel; the total weight of reel is reduced, oscillation is improved, less resistance during winding and rotation, better balance when attached to the rod and of course the reel feels light and easy to fish.
AIRDRIVE SHAFT
Friction free rotation.
AIRDRIVE SHAFT has a non contact structure between the mainshaft and the pinion gear. In addition to this, both ends of pinion gear are now supported with bearings to relay the crank power from the handle to the rotor with a higher level of efficiency. By adding high quality collars to the mainshaft, rotational noise has been reduced significantly.
AIRDRIVE SHAFT creates the feel of smooth, quiet rotation and provides anglers with torque and power.
TWIST BUSTER Ⅲ
TWIST BUSTER III – Superior Line Management: Line twist has long been considered an unavoidable issue with spinning reels. DAIWA’s solution: a tapered line roller that gently rolls the line during rotor rotation, effectively neutralizing twist before it builds up. With TWIST BUSTER III, we’ve taken it a step further. A newly designed groove in the line roller helps stabilize the line as it passes through—reducing flutter and delivering even smoother line flow. Enjoy cleaner casts, fewer tangles, and optimal line performance.
MONOCOQUE BODY
Daiwa’s Monocoque (MQ) body is a revolutionary design that redefines spinning reels. Unlike traditional two-part reel bodies, MQ technology features a rigid, one-piece construction that enhances strength, reduces weight, and improves weather sealing. By eliminating the need for a screw-secured sideplate, space is freed up within the body, allowing for the integration of a larger drive gear—up to 85% of the body’s surface area. This results in increased power, durability, and efficiency without making the reel larger. The MQ body serves as a stiff, distortion-proof frame, ensuring exceptional durability even under extreme conditions. The direct screw-in engine plate replaces the traditional sideplate, reducing excess material and reinforcing the reel’s structure. This balance between lightness and strength creates a reel that is compact yet incredibly powerful. A key benefit of MQ technology is the ability to house a significantly larger drive gear, improving torque, power transmission, and longevity. With increased strength and reduced weight, MQ reels offer a smoother, more efficient fishing experience. Daiwa’s innovation in reel design continues to push boundaries, delivering stronger and more compact reels for all anglers.
MAGSEALED
The Mag Sealed principle is based on special magnetic oil, which has been developed by the NASA to transport fuel to the space ships based on the magnetic principle. Such oil for reel production is not available in the market. It has to be manufactured under most difficult circumstances. The embedded ferric oxide, which is necessary for the magnetic field, has a diameter of 1/100.000mm.

The molecules in this new "metal oil" are capable of changing. If they are exposed to a magnetic field, they change their shape and the oil forms a fluid seal.
Such a seal, based on the principle of liquid magnetic oil produces nearly no friction, isolates perfectly and prevents even penetration of dust particles.
The big challenge for the DAIWA engineers was the development of a reel, which is designed for the principle of the magnetic oil to generate a kind of liquid membrane that prevents water penetration.
The Mag Sealed design is based on the purpose to keep water away from a spinning reel. First of all for sea anglers this is an amazing idea - since delivers a longer life span; no corrosion and better, pro longed function. If salt water penetrates the reel and dries, it crystallizes, corrodes the gearing and affects the ball bearings. Mag Sealed halts the travel of salt particles.
MAGSEALED LINE ROLLER
A smoothly rotating line roller reduces friction between the fishing line and the reel, improving casting performance and line longevity. However, if salt or dirt particles penetrate the line roller, friction increases, leading to rough and inefficient operation. Daiwa's Magsealed line roller utilizes magnetic oil to form a protective barrier, preventing the intrusion of water, salt, and dirt. This innovation ensures continuous smooth rotation, reducing wear on both the roller and the fishing line. The result is enhanced durability and a seamless fishing experience, even under demanding conditions.
ATD TYPE-L
ATD Type-L Drag – Optimized for Light Lines ATD Type-L enhances the smooth operation of ATD, further reducing inertia for an even softer, more controlled startup—perfect for lighter lines. This minimizes strain, allowing for faster, stress-free fights while protecting delicate tackle. With refined drag response and an improved clicker sound, ATD Type-L delivers precision, consistency, and control, ensuring smooth performance from hook-up to landing.
CRBB
Shielded for extra protection. Unlike ordinary "corrosion resistant" bearings with un unprotected open race, DAIWA's CRBB ball bearings are shielded to seal out sand, fine grit, salt crystals and other abrasives for even longer life.
CRBB ball bearings feature an 12 times higher corrosion resistance than usual ball bearings.
