When fishing in mountain streams and headwaters, where anglers must tackle a wide variety of spots, it is common to make frequent casts with irregular form or inconsistent force. With a standard AIR brake system, the inductor rotor is activated during the brief interval between the release of the Lure on a short cast and its landing on the water. However, during ultra-short casts or those with extremely low input, the inductor rotor may fail to engage. Consequently, a discrepancy arises between the angler’s intended action and the actual operation of the inductor rotor, leading to variation in casting accuracy.
To alleviate this kind of stress, the Stream Trout Brake Tune secures the inductor rotor, applying a subtle, constant braking force to enable precise targeting of specific spots and a comfortable fishing experience with fewer problems.

HYPERDRIVE DESIGN
A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.
HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR
A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.
HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT
A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.
HYPER ARMED HOUSING (AL)
A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined winding feel and power. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential, and its combination with the side plates and set plates ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.
In this series, aluminium alloy is used for the frame, the gear-side side plate and the dial-side set plate. It features a full-metal housing design that delivers unrivalled strength.
HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.
TWS (T-WING SYSTEM)
TWS has succeeded in significantly reducing resistance at the line guide closest to the spool—the point where spool rotation speed is at its highest. By minimising resistance that impedes casting distance, it not only improves casting distance and control beyond previous levels, but also enables a faster fall and reduces Backlash. This realises a new level of line winding capability not only during reeling but also during the casting action.
UTD (Ultimate Tournament Drag)
DAIWA’s drag system eliminates the initial hesitation when the drag first engages, delivering smooth, consistent performance without any jerking, whilst also offering maximum Drag Force that increases the tighter it is set.
ZERO ADJUSTER
By first adjusting the ‘ZERO ADJUSTER’ and setting the ‘Spool Play Zero’ function, the evolution of the magnetic brake system now makes it possible to control all lures using the magnet dial alone.
The ‘ZERO ADJUSTER’ is a mechanism designed to ensure you can enjoy a comfortable fishing experience without any malfunctions whilst fishing, by adjusting it to the ‘zero setting’ before you start fishing.

G1 Duralumin Spool
G1 duralumin is a special aluminium-based alloy that offers twice the strength of magnesium and 1.3 times that of ultra-high-strength duralumin. This material, which maintains both ultra-lightweight properties and excellent rigidity, is the highest grade of lightweight alloy used in applications such as aircraft structural components and precision equipment. To achieve an overwhelming sense of lightness whilst maintaining the same strength, the spool’s line-winding surface is not blanked but simply thinned, yet still retains ample strength. The high rotational response afforded by its lightness, combined with the unparalleled precision of rotation resulting from its high rigidity, is unrivalled.
Drag-and-drop click
A ‘drag click’ is a mechanism that emits a clicking sound so that the angler can hear when the drag engages as the line is pulled out during a fight with a fish.
Stream Trout Brake Tuning (Fixed Induct Rotor Type)
A PE-tuned model with the drag system set for the recommended reel capacity for PE line. The drag settings are designed to accommodate not only PE line, but also nylon and Fluoro lines. This setup prioritises accuracy for short to medium-range casts in mountain streams, as advocated by the late Hiroyuki Motoyama, a leading authority on stream bait finesse fishing.
Precautions when adjusting the brakes
First, adjust the ‘Zero Adjuster’ and set the ‘Spool Play Zero’ setting.

Once the direction in which the Lure flies out matches the release point, reduce the Mag Dial by one notch at a time.
Once you’ve reduced the braking force to the point where there’s just a slight amount of slack in the line towards the end of the cast, adjust it back by one or two notches to complete the setup.
As this model features an ultra-lightweight Spool, even a single notch on the Mag Dial can have a significant effect. Please ensure you adjust the Mag Dial one notch at a time.
