The tension-filled blank, characteristic of a high-response rod utilising high-modulus carbon, boasts exceptional manoeuvrability, allowing the angler to control the Jig precisely as intended. The blank is constructed from the robust HVF Nano Plus. Reinforced throughout with X45 Full Shield, and combined with an exquisite taper setting that fuses power and sharpness, this rod enables the angler to work the Jig exactly as they wish. Furthermore, the incorporation of ‘AGS’ from the tip to the belly delivers a sharp jigging feel and sensitivity of a different dimension. The Zero Seat reel seat helps reduce fatigue and supports comfortable Jigging. By paying meticulous attention not only to the action but also to every component—from the blank and guides to the reel seat—we have created a truly unique, high-response Jigging rod.

DAIWA Technology

AGS

The AGS (AIR GUIDE SYSTEM), which delivers both lightness and high sensitivity, utilises a carbon frame. Thanks to carbon’s inherent properties—which provide approximately three times the rigidity of titanium—it offers exceptional sensitivity, transmitting even the slightest signals along the line directly to the blank without any loss. Furthermore, the lightness of the carbon enhances swing speed and allows the tip to stabilise more quickly, resulting in a significant improvement in both distance and control.

X45 FULL SHIELD

The X45 FULL SHIELD construction utilises a 45° carbon bias weave, applied from the outermost layer—where it is most effective—at the tip of the blank, the area most prone to twisting during actions such as casting, retrieving, hooking and fighting. This dramatically improves torsional rigidity, enabling greater casting accuracy than ever before and allowing the Rod to deliver its full potential.

ZERO SEAT

ZERO SEAT is a new design concept for reel seats, aimed at allowing anglers to enjoy fishing to the full, free from stress.

HVF NANOPLUS

‘High-density HVF carbon’—which reduces the amount of resin whilst increasing the density of the carbon fibres—is the ideal material for rods designed to prioritise toughness and strength. By combining Toray Industries, Inc.’s Nanoalloy Technology with DAIWA’s proprietary manufacturing process, it is possible to achieve even greater strength and lighter weight.

A high-modulus jigging rod that takes jerking performance—one of the most crucial aspects of a jigging rod—to the absolute limit. The blank, boasting high modulus, offers the manoeuvrability to work the jig exactly as the angler intends. However, rather than being merely stiff, it is designed to be physically manageable, allowing for prolonged jerking sessions. When battling bluefish, the rod absorbs the load firmly across its entire length, ensuring you maintain control throughout the fight.

In jigging, where the rod is constantly in motion, reducing the weight of the tip section is of great importance. Meanwhile, the deliberate use of metal guides in the butt section ensures a reassuring feel during use.

In jigging, where prolonged jerking motions are required, the reel seat—which forms the point of contact between the rod and the angler—plays a crucial role. ・What makes the ideal jigging rod?

My ideal jigging rod is one that responds faithfully to every movement, delivering exactly what you put into it. This SALTIGA J HIGHRESPONSE (hereinafter SG J HI) has been crafted precisely with the aim of creating such a high-resilience jigging rod. I feel that the SG J HI has turned out to be just such a rod: one that has re-examined inshore Jigging, adapted it to the modern Jigging scene, and redefined the joy of manoeuvring a Jig.

Firstly, regarding the action and taper, I believe this rod offers a feel unlike any previous DAIWA Jigging rod. The entire rod is constructed from a high-modulus material; whilst the tip has tension, the Rod Butt possesses considerable power. This might suggest the rod feels stiff overall, but when jerking a Jig, the section slightly above the centre of the rod does the work (bending and springing back in response to the load), allowing the rod to snap back even with a light touch. Furthermore, when applying more force, you can utilise the power of the Rod Butt, making long jerks and similar actions comfortable. The use of high-elasticity material means the rod returns to its original position quickly, making it easy to establish a rhythm and achieve smooth, fluid jerks. Consequently, as you can manoeuvre the Jig exactly as intended, this rod helps reduce fatigue for the angler. Once a fish is hooked, you can utilise the high-elasticity rebound to reel it in with strong, steady pulls. I am thoroughly satisfied with the sharp, responsive feel characteristic of a high-elasticity rod.

We have also paid meticulous attention to the components that make up the rod. AGS guides are fitted from the tip to the belly. AGS is an excellent match for Jigging rods; it not only reduces weight but also dramatically improves sensitivity and manoeuvrability. It delivers astonishing sensitivity by detecting changes in water pressure, the fish’s movements and even the slightest bites, whilst also minimising vibration. Furthermore, the reel seat features the Zero Seat, specifically designed for Jigging. I was involved in testing this reel seat right from the development stage, and thanks to its excellent feel, it has been finished to a standard that reduces fatigue even during the kind of hard jerking action I employ.

・Product range and how to choose the right one

Our range comprises six items. The No. 3 is the benchmark Rod in this series, suitable for use throughout Japan, including the Tango region. If you’re unsure which to choose, we recommend the No. 3. The No. 4 is well-suited to deeper waters and drift fishing, and excels when you need to vary the pace of your Jig’s action. The No. 2.5 is recommended not only for Akashi, Osaka Bay and shallow waters, but also for working Jigs with a soft, fluid motion. The No. 5, a power model, is suitable for long-distance Jigging expeditions and is an excellent choice when targeting yellowtail amberjack and Japanese amberjack. As for the length, the 6.0ft model is the standard item; combined with the high-modulus blank characteristics, it offers a direct feel. It is characterised by its crisp action, even when drift fishing. The 6.4ft model enables a wide variety of actions that make the most of its length, such as the Tango jerk and combination jerks; it also facilitates technical approaches, such as hovering or swimming the Jig. When I fish in the Tango Area myself, I take the 60S-3, 60S-4 and 64S-3 with me, so please use this as a reference.

・Serious rod-making in collaboration with DAIWA

This time, in order to bring my ideal Jigging rod to life, I teamed up with DAIWA from the very beginning to take on the challenge of creating it, but it was truly a struggle. Through repeated discussions with the project manager, we received an incredible number of test samples, but none of them quite felt right, so we decided to start from scratch. After that, by incorporating my feedback and repeating the testing process time and time again, and by fine-tuning the design through actual fishing in the field, we were gradually able to get closer to the Rod we have today. We struggled with aspects such as the action and taper, of course, as well as adjusting the size and number of guides, but I am convinced that, as a result, we have produced a Rod that I can recommend with complete confidence. Jigging is a form of fishing that involves repeating the same movements in time with a rhythm, and I feel that this SG J HI allows you to get into that rhythm comfortably and jerk the Jig with ease. It makes it easy to visualise what’s happening underwater and enables direct contact with the target; it has been finished with the classic action that is the standard in Tango.

Designed to make basic movements easy, this Rod can be used with confidence in a wide range of situations. Whilst the Bait you use will vary depending on the fishing ground and season, and water depth and the way FUNE drifts will also change, I believe this Rod is designed to allow you to manoeuvre the Jig as you see fit and truly experience the joy of catching a Fish. Jigging becomes even more enjoyable when you feel that you’ve ‘caught’ the Fish, rather than simply that it ‘bit’.
