Unwavering trust. Joy that resonates with your sensibilities.

We want to create a spinning reel that anglers will cherish and use for years to come. Not for any one person in particular, but for all anglers. To achieve this, we aimed for comfortable handling that suits any user, and rock-solid rigidity that inspires confidence. The philosophy behind CERTATE remains unchanged, even now, 20 years on.
The ‘AIRDRIVE DESIGN’—the next-generation spinning reel design philosophy incorporated into the NEW CERTATE—represents a major milestone in CERTATE’s ongoing pursuit of comfortable handling. This design philosophy, aimed at enabling anglers to manoeuvre lures precisely as they wish, comprises up to four distinct technologies. The benefits gained from fully incorporating this AIRDRIVE DESIGN are immense. Lightweight handling achieved through optimal weight balance. A smooth, responsive rotation that creates an integrated sense of unity with the tackle. Sensitivity that allows you to detect even the slightest bite or change in the current. A significant reduction in line tangles. This is CERTATE’s clear answer to the needs of the modern angler. The new ATD TYPE-L drag system reduces strain on the line and promises a reassuring and comfortable fight thanks to its high responsiveness and smooth, gradual engagement.
This level of operability cannot be achieved without robust rigidity. That is precisely why CERTATE has consistently prioritised rigidity. The very symbol of this is the ‘MONOCOQUE BODY’, an integrated structure made from aluminium. This is DAIWA Technology, which minimises body flex under high loads—a traditional weakness in conventional spinning reels—thereby delivering powerful reeling. The engine plate screwed into this structure is also made of aluminium. In short, the aluminium full-metal body provides robust support for the internal structure—the very heart of the reel. The drive gears housed within have undergone a special surface treatment to increase their hardness, thereby minimising damage to the gears under high loads. The main shaft, which transmits this power to the front unit, is made from SUS—a material offering even greater rigidity than aluminium—ensuring maximum performance without any loss of power. Reliable rigidity and comfortable handling. This consistent, no-nonsense robustness is proof of the trust we have built up over the years. The NEW CERTATE, now in its 20th year and representing a true evolution, brings the standard-setting spinning reel of a new era to all anglers.

DAIWA Technology

AIRDRIVE DESIGN
The AIRDRIVE DESIGN is a next-generation spinning reel design philosophy that pursues the ability for anglers to manoeuvre Lures precisely as they wish. The AIRDRIVE DESIGN comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of an AIRDRIVE ROTOR, which ensures smooth reeling and produces highly responsive rotation, alongside a lightweight, trouble-free AIRDRIVE BAIL, a thin-walled AIRDRIVE SPOOL, which has been stripped of all unnecessary material to the absolute limit to achieve maximum lightness; and the AIRDRIVE SHAFT, which supports the main shaft with high-precision bushings and features a non-contact design with the pinion gear, enabling smooth, quiet reeling with minimal rotational noise even under heavy loads. The synergistic effect of these components, combined with improved weight balance within the reel, delivers a high level of manoeuvrability.
*The 24CERTATE is equipped with an AIRDRIVE ROTOR, AIRDRIVE BAIL, AIRDRIVE SPOOL and AIRDRIVE SHAFT.
AIRDRIVE ROTOR
Based on our proprietary theory, we have devised a new shape that appears as though it has been cut directly from a sphere; by then thoroughly trimming away all unnecessary material, we have achieved a significant reduction in weight whilst maintaining rigidity. The ease of reeling has improved dramatically, leading to enhanced manoeuvrability and sensitivity.
AIRDRIVE BAIL
The AIRBAIL, which has traditionally utilised a hollow-pipe structure to provide rigidity and lightness, has been redesigned with a smaller diameter whilst maintaining the necessary strength, in order to achieve even greater weight reduction. The bail has been set at an optimal angle to ensure the line transitions more smoothly from the bail to the line roller. This delivers even greater lightness and trouble-free operation.
AIRDRIVE SPOOL
A thin-walled design that trims away unnecessary material to achieve the ultimate in weight reduction. Weight has been thoroughly minimised, not only through the thin-walled design of the spool skirt but also through the use of internal spool cut-outs. The lighter spool improves manoeuvrability, such as the ease of reeling and casting action. Furthermore, the low-friction drag mechanism enhances responsiveness when the drag is engaged.
AIRDRIVE SHAFT
This system features a linear shaft with a non-contact design between the main shaft and the pinion, eliminating frictional resistance entirely; furthermore, by supporting both ends of the pinion with ball bearings, it maximises the conversion of input power into rotational force. In addition, by supporting the main shaft with high-precision collars, the system thoroughly reduces rotational noise.
MONOCOQUE BODY
Robust and durable technology: the MONOCOQUE BODY. Conventional spinning reels typically featured a design in which the drive gear was supported at both ends by the body and the body cover, and secured in place with several screws. Aiming to further improve precision and rigidity, the MONOCOQUE BODY eliminates the body cover and instead secures a high-precision plate directly to the body by screwing it in. This has enhanced the precision with which the gears are supported, whilst also improving rigidity and airtightness. Furthermore, by utilising the space previously occupied by screws, we have succeeded in maximising the size of the drive gear to the absolute limit. The term ‘MONOCOQUE BODY’ derives from ‘MONO’ (one) and ‘COQUE’ (shell). This entirely new design, symbolising the resilience of a single-piece shell, shatters conventional wisdom regarding reel construction.
TOUGH DIGIGEAR
To withstand harsh conditions, a reel needs a robust core to support it. ‘TOUGH DIGIGEAR’ ensures smoother rotation for longer.
ATD TYPE-L
The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. The ATD TYPE-L offers enhanced initial response. Designed to prioritise smooth engagement and tracking, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without worrying about drag settings.
*The 5000 series utilises carbon ATD with high tensile strength
LC-ABS (Long Cast ABS)
Whilst retaining the ABS II design philosophy of reducing contact resistance, the contacts have been moved forward to achieve smoother line release. As the ring section protrudes further forward, the line is less likely to ride up onto the ring; this has resulted in a cast distance increase of approximately 5 per cent compared to the conventional ABS II, whilst also improving reliability. A next-generation ABS spool that delivers LC (LONG CAST).
MAGSEALED
DAIWA’s unique waterproof design creates a barrier of magnetic oil between the body and the rotor to prevent the ingress of seawater, dust and other contaminants.
MAGSEALED LINE ROLLER
The Line Roller is the component that directly comes into contact with the water and sand picked up by the line. Enhancing the water resistance of the Line Roller under these harsh conditions helps to maintain its initial performance, such as rotational feel and sensitivity; it drastically reduces the build-up of salt and foreign matter, and the improved rotation also helps to minimise line twist.

AIRDRIVE ROTOR (manufactured by ZAION) ‘Why We Pursue Low Inertia’
DAIWA continues to work on improving the rotational response of spinning reel rotors. Based on its proprietary theory, DAIWA has developed a new shape that appears as though it has been cut directly from a sphere.
By thoroughly trimming away any unnecessary material, we have succeeded in achieving significant weight reduction whilst maintaining rigidity. This has led to a dramatic improvement in the smoothness of reeling, resulting in enhanced manoeuvrability and sensitivity. Furthermore, the new design and screw-free exterior have improved resistance to line tangles, delivering an even more stress-free user experience.

In contrast to the 19CERTATE air rotor,
・Approximately 16 per cent lighter (*1) for the rotor unit (compared to the 2500 series)
・Inertia reduced by up to approximately 16 per cent (*2)

(*1) Weight reduction figures vary depending on size.
(*2) The calculated value for inertial force varies depending on size and is highest for size 2500.
AIRDRIVE BAIL: ‘Towards even greater trouble-free operation’
For many years, the AIRBAIL fitted to DAIWA spinning reels has featured a hollow-tube structure that provides both lightness and rigidity. Furthermore, its unique shape ensures that the line is guided smoothly onto the line roller, enabling trouble-free reeling.
The Air Drive Bale has been made slimmer whilst maintaining the necessary strength, in order to achieve further weight reduction. Furthermore, it has been set at an optimal angle to ensure a smoother transition of the line from the bale to the line roller. This not only underpins the performance of the AIRDRIVE ROTOR but also results in a lighter, more trouble-free unit.

In contrast to 19CERTATE’s AIRBAIL,
・Weight reduced by approximately 1 g (approx. 33 per cent) (compared to the 2500 model)
・Reduction in veil diameter from 3 mm to 2.4 mm
AIRDRIVE SPOOL: ‘Shin Design that Reflects the Future’
Based on meticulous strength calculations, this thin-walled design has been thoroughly refined to eliminate all unnecessary material and achieve the ultimate in weight reduction. No compromises have been made whatsoever, from the thin-walled design of the line-winding section and spool skirt to the internal hollowed-out sections of the spool. The reduced weight of the spool improves handling, such as the ease of reeling and casting action. Furthermore, a new drag sound mechanism with low operating resistance has been developed, achieving improved responsiveness during drag operation.

For the 19CERTATE spool, we have succeeded in reducing operating resistance whilst maintaining the volume of the clicking sound when the drag is released.
AIRDRIVE SHAFT: ‘Transfers all the power directly to the rotor’
The Linear Shaft system, which DAIWA has incorporated into its spinning reels, is a system that eliminates frictional resistance by ensuring the main shaft is in non-contact with the pinion.
The AIRDRIVE SHAFT further utilises ball bearings to support both ends of the pinion, thereby maximising the transfer of power from the handle to the rotor’s rotational force. Furthermore, by supporting the main shaft with high-precision bushings, it has been possible to drastically reduce rotational noise.
MONOCOQUE BODY: ‘Endless possibilities brought about by lightness and strength’
A monocoque structure is one in which the body itself acts as a rigid frame, offering high resistance to twisting and flexing whilst maximising space efficiency. It is utilised in applications such as rockets and Formula One machines, where extreme durability and space efficiency are essential. In spinning reels, too, the benefits are immense. As no space is required to secure screws, the size of the drive gear can be maximised relative to the body dimensions. It has become possible to accommodate a large-diameter drive gear that occupies as much as 85 per cent of the body’s surface area. In other words, a body of conventional size can house a massive gear, whilst a gear of conventional size allows for an exceptionally compact body. This technology holds infinite potential for creating strong yet lightweight products; it is the lightweight and robust technology at the heart of ‘LT’ (LIGHT & TOUGH), the philosophy that DAIWA pursues in its spinning reels. The 24CERTATE features a high-rigidity, all-metal (aluminium) MONOCOQUE BODY.
Ultra-high-strength duralumin MC (machine-cut) Tough Digi Gear: ‘Precise meshing generates power’
The drive gear—the most important component in a reel—requires an integrated set of elements: design philosophy, machining technology and gear material.
The ultra-high-strength duralumin MC Tough Digi Gear fitted to the 24CERTATE achieves the ideal gear design by applying high-precision machine cutting to cold-forged material finished to a high strength. Furthermore, a special surface treatment has been applied to the drive gear to increase its surface hardness, thereby minimising the adverse effects caused by sudden impacts. Moreover, for the large-sized XH gear models—the LT3000, LT4000-C, LT5000-C and LT5000—which are expected to be subjected to high loads, high-strength pinions, proven in models such as the SALTIGA, have been newly adopted to ensure absolute reliability.
ATD TYPE-L: ‘A whole new level of responsiveness’
The ATD TYPE-L retains the smooth, continuous performance of the ATD system in response to a fish’s pull, whilst further enhancing the initial response of the spinning reel. It has been fine-tuned with a focus on the smooth initial release required when using light line, further reducing the load on the line whilst ensuring the fish is not subjected to excessive stress, thereby enabling a quick landing.
(The size 5000 is a carbon washer to ATD specifications)
LC-ABS (Long Cast ABS) ‘Even Further’
Whilst retaining the ABS II design philosophy of reducing contact resistance, the line is released more smoothly by positioning the contacts further forward. As the ring section protrudes further forward, the line is less likely to ride up on the ring, resulting in a cast distance increase of approximately 5 per cent compared to the conventional ABS II, as well as improved reliability. This is truly a next-generation ABS spool that delivers LC (LONG CAST).
Body with no stoppers: ‘Even Lighter and More Reliable’
The body structure has been simplified by removing the stopper. The decision to remove the stopper—which acts as a pathway for water and foreign matter to enter—has not only reduced weight and improved water resistance but also minimised the risk of sudden malfunctions that might otherwise occur when using the 24CERTATE in the harsh environments for which it is designed or when fighting the Big One.
