To cope with even more demanding conditions, the core performance has been refined through ‘HYPERDRIVE DESIGN’, delivering robust winding performance. The maximum Drag Force—a key consideration for a reel of this size—is rated at ‘13 kg’, a figure based on real-world fishing conditions. For this model, we have selected ‘UTD’ to prioritise the stickiness of the drag. It is fitted with a large-diameter spool designed to handle large fish from around the world—such as large yellowfin tuna, yellowtail amberjack and Japanese amberjack—as well as deep-sea fishing, offering a generous reel capacity. Whilst providing ample reel capacity, we have paid close attention to the spool diameter, width and frame size to achieve a size that is comfortable to use throughout the day. Furthermore, the frame—which the angler comes into contact with—features a thumb-holding design, allowing the reel to be held with minimal effort. It also incorporates a large, newly designed Knob, crafted to maximise grip and leverage. Moreover, aiming for unprecedented durability, it is equipped with anodised protection to mitigate metal corrosion. All of this is in the name of ‘BREAK YOUR RECORD’; the SALTIGA 35 will be your ultimate weapon for making your dreams a reality.

DAIWA Technology

HYPERDRIVE DESIGN

A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.

HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR

A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.

HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT

A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.

HYPER ARMED HOUSING (FULL AL)

A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined winding feel and power. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential; combined with the side plates and set plates, this ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.

In this series, aluminium alloy is used for the gear-side side plate, the one-piece frame and the set plate. Featuring a full-aluminium housing design, it has been fully machined—a process unique to round shapes—to achieve unrivalled strength.

HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH

Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.

MAGSEALED BALL BEARING

Using its proprietary technology, DAIWA has succeeded in becoming the first in the world to apply MAGSEALED technology to the ball bearing itself. A wall of magnetic fluid prevents water and foreign particles from entering the interior of the ball bearing, thereby significantly reducing rust, salt deposits and abnormal noises whilst maintaining the ball bearing’s inherent rotational performance.

One is fitted to the pinion gear support on the brake knob side of the mechanical brake—the part most prone to salt build-up and the most difficult to maintain. By further enhancing water resistance and durability, it ensures that the initial performance is maintained.

UTD (Ultimate Tournament Drag)

DAIWA’s drag system eliminates the initial hesitation when the drag first engages, delivering smooth, consistent performance without any jerking, whilst also offering maximum Drag Force that increases the tighter it is set.

With the 25SALTIGA 35, we deliberately opted for UTD to prioritise drag strength whilst maintaining water resistance. With a standard reel capacity, the maximum drag force reaches 13 kg when tightened by hand within the range of torque achievable by human strength. Precisely because this Drag Force is designed with actual fishing conditions in mind, you can tackle large fish with confidence.

Thumb-Hold Frame

‘A shift in thinking: from the concept of gripping to that of finger grip’
We analysed the gripping styles of various anglers to develop a shape that fits more comfortably in the hand. We developed a ‘thumb-holding frame’ designed to facilitate thumb control whilst minimising the risk of the thumb slipping out.
Comfort has been significantly improved, taking into account the position of the thumb after the clutch is disengaged.
With a completely new way of experiencing the ‘palm grip’, it radically transforms the conventional concept of ‘gripping’.

Anode Protection

‘Unrivalled durability that never fades.’
Anodic protection is a technique used to mitigate metal corrosion. Also known as a sacrificial anode, it works by having the anode (lead) corrode in place of the metal itself. By incorporating this technology into the reel, the aim was to concentrate corrosion on the anode plate and thereby maintain durability.

Designed for deeper waters where heavier jigs and larger fish are expected, the handle length has been set at 100–110 mm. The 5 mm blade thickness ensures high rigidity, allowing you to perform reeling without the rod bending, even during powerful jerks or when fighting large fish.

105 mm T-shaped power knob

‘A large Knob designed to maximise the angler’s power’
The T-shaped power knob is designed to provide a comfortable fit when gripped or held in the hand, and to accommodate various thumb positions, ensuring comfortable handling during jerking and reeling.
A meticulously crafted shape, sketched and carved from scratch by bait jigging expert Kazunari Shimizu. It is suitable not only for slow jigging but also for high-speed one-pitch jerks in deep waters.

Spool lock mechanism

‘A line-cutting function that excels in Jigging’
A mechanism for securing the spool firmly in place and locking it against reverse rotation.
When freeing a snag, pulling too hard can damage not only the line but also the gears and ball bearings. However, by using the spool lock mechanism, you can disengage the spool from the pinion gear, allowing you to cut the line without damaging the gears or ball bearings.

It’s easy to use.
1. Move the spool lock lever to the ‘On’ position.
2. Disengage the clutch.
3. In this position, apply tension for the first time and cut the pull line.
The key is to ensure that the spool and pinion gear are disengaged.

φ65 mm large-diameter Spool

‘A large-diameter spool suitable for deep waters and thick lines’
A Φ65 mm spool, larger than that of the 15 Series. It can hold 600 m of PE No. 3, 500 m of PE No. 4 or 300 m of PE No. 6. This opens up the possibility of targeting even larger fish and fishing in deeper waters than before.
Furthermore, as with the Size 15 model, the spool shape achieves the ideal balance, taking into account even the variation in reeling speed caused by line release. It is precisely because the variation in line reeling is optimised that the reel delivers the correct drag performance, contributing to both smooth reeling and the power required to close the distance.

Spool replaceable

‘A simple and convenient Spool replacement function.’
The number of side plate screws on the gearbox side has been increased from three in the 15 Series to five in the 35 Series. This ensures that the frame and side plate are securely fastened together.
By having a spare spool to hand, you can swap spools immediately in the event of an unexpected line break or depending on sea conditions.
Using the spool replacement spanner (T10) supplied, remove the five side plate screws on the gearbox side to remove the gearbox cover.
The side plate screws feature an anti-loss design that prevents them from falling out even when fully loosened, thereby avoiding the hassle of losing them.
