HYPERDRIVE DESIGN
A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.
HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR
A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.
HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT
A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.
HYPER ARMED HOUSING (FULL AL)
A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined winding feel and power. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential; combined with the side plates and set plates, this ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.
In this series, aluminium alloy is used for the frame, the gear-side side plate (handlebar side) and the set plate. It features a full-metal housing design that delivers unrivalled strength and durability.
HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.
MAGSEALED BALL BEARING
Using its proprietary technology, DAIWA has succeeded in becoming the first in the world to apply MAGSEALED technology to the ball bearing itself. A wall of magnetic fluid prevents water and foreign particles from entering the interior of the ball bearing, thereby significantly reducing rust, salt deposits and abnormal noises whilst maintaining the ball bearing’s inherent rotational performance.
ATD
The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. Designed to minimise slippage and ensure excellent tracking, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without having to worry about drag settings.

Anode Protection
‘Unrivalled durability that won’t deteriorate’
Anodic protection is a technique used to mitigate metal corrosion. Also known as a sacrificial anode, it works by having the anode (lead) corrode in place of the metal.
By incorporating this technology into the reel, the aim was to concentrate corrosion on the anode plate and thereby maintain durability. This is the first time this feature has been incorporated into a DAIWA reel.

We analysed the gripping styles of various anglers to develop a shape that fits more comfortably in the hand. We developed a ‘thumb-holding frame’ designed to facilitate thumb control whilst minimising the risk of the thumb slipping out.
Comfort has been significantly improved, taking into account the position of the thumb after the clutch is disengaged.
With a completely new way of experiencing the ‘palm grip’, it radically transforms the conventional concept of ‘gripping’.

Spool change
‘Simple and convenient Spool replacement function’
A three-point support structure utilising side-plate screws is employed.
By having a spare spool to hand, you can swap spools immediately in the event of an unexpected line break or depending on sea conditions.
Using the spool replacement spanner (T8) supplied, remove the three side plate screws on the gearbox side to remove the gearbox cover.
The side plate screws feature an anti-loss design that prevents them from falling out even when fully loosened, thereby avoiding the hassle of losing them.

Reel Fit
The 15-SJ series is the only one to feature a special specification in addition to the handle configuration. This involves optimising the position of the reel body for slow Jigging.
So, what have we done? We’ve adjusted the setup so that the reel body is positioned just 1 mm closer to the tip than on the standard SALTIGA 15 model.

‘A line-cutting function that excels in Jigging’
A mechanism for securing the spool firmly in place and locking it against reverse rotation.
When freeing a snag, pulling too hard can damage not only the line but also the gears and ball bearings. However, by using the spool lock mechanism, you can disengage the spool from the pinion gear, allowing you to cut the line without damaging the gears or ball bearings.
It’s easy to use.
① Move the spool lock lever to the ‘On’ position.
② Disengage the clutch.
③ In this position, apply tension for the first time and cut the pull line.
The key is to ensure that the spool and pinion gear are disengaged.

A special specification developed in collaboration with Kazunari Shimizu, refining the standard model. Fitted as standard with an 85–95 mm carbon Crank handle arm, it has been developed to achieve the perfect balance between manoeuvrability and lightweight construction. With a line capacity of 400 m of PE No. 3 or 600 m of PE No. 2, it is ideal for targeting yellowtail amberjack, yellowtail, yellowfin tuna and inshore kampachi, as well as mid-water species such as red seabass and black seabass.In Normal Gear mode (Gear ratio 6.3), the reel capacity per handle rotation is 103 cm, making it easy to use for a reel of this size. The 6.3 Gear ratio provides overwhelming reeling power, even when fighting large fish, allowing you to close the distance between you and your catch. A High Gear version (Gear ratio 7.1) is also available in the range.The reel capacity per handle rotation is 115 cm. In deep-water areas or when drifting with the current, where a large amount of line is released, the amount of line on the spool decreases, resulting in a shorter reel capacity per handle rotation. This model excels in slow jigging under such conditions. It also performs well in situations where a fast reeling speed is required to cast the jig a long way and allow for a long fall. |
