SMT (SUPER METAL TOP)
SMT (SUPER METAL TOP) is DAIWA’s proprietary technology that utilises a super-elastic titanium alloy in the Rod Tip. Thanks to the vibration-amplifying properties unique to metal, it offers anglers a level of sensitivity that is unattainable with carbon materials. In addition to the strength and resistance to damage characteristic of highly elastic metal materials, it enables a delicate Rod Tip that bends supple in response to even the slightest movement. Consequently, it excels in the tactile sensitivity unique to metal—which reliably transmits bites right to the angler’s hands—as well as the visual sensitivity of observing the Rod Tip’s movement.

To prevent twisting that occurs during actions such as casting, retrieving, hooking and fighting, many years of research have led to the conclusion that, in addition to conventional structures (0° and 90° relative to the rod tip), reeling a ‘45°’ bias cross (carbon fibres angled at ±45°, for example) is the optimal solution for preventing twisting. The incorporation of X45 prevents twisting and delivers a dramatic improvement in power, manoeuvrability and sensitivity.
MEGA TOP
MEGATOP is a carbon solid in which fibres and resin are uniformly dispersed, exhibiting the same degree of flex in every direction. As a result, its strength is dramatically improved compared to conventional carbon solids. This makes it possible to create a rod tip that is slender, flexible and highly tapered, resulting in a rod tip that not only offers excellent sensitivity through the rod but also provides superior visual sensitivity, allowing the angler to detect even the slightest bite.

*Precautions for using the metal top
■ Temperature changes in the metal top
Due to the nature of superelastic titanium alloys, their elasticity decreases in low-temperature environments of 5°C or below, resulting in a delay in the Rod Tip springing back into shape. Extreme cold in the early morning or at night, or the effects of wind, may cause the Rod Tip to bend to a noticeable extent. Furthermore, in environments below 0°C, this loss of elasticity becomes more pronounced, and the Rod Tip may remain bent without springing back. In either case, once the temperature rises, the material will return to its original superelastic state and can be used as normal.
■Please avoid using the product in a way that causes excessive bending
Whilst the metal tip is comfortable to use under normal operating conditions, excessive bending caused by external factors—such as the line becoming caught or tangled around the Rod Tip—may result in permanent deformation (plastic deformation) or breakage due to metal fatigue.
■ Minor deformation can be corrected by hand
Should any minor deformation remain, you can correct it by gently bending the wire in the opposite direction to the warping. However, as repeated attempts to correct deformation can lead to metal fatigue, please avoid any actions that might cause warping to form, such as twisting the wire.
