DAIWA Technology

ESS (Expert Sense Simulation)

When a rod bends, energy (restorative force) is generated that causes it to try to return to its original position in the opposite direction. This is the ‘strain energy’ generated by the deformed (strained) blank as it attempts to return to its original state, and it is a crucial factor that determines the rod’s performance. DAIWA has independently developed a system for analysing and designing ‘strain energy’. This not only enables us to clearly identify, in numerical terms, ‘where the rod excels’ and ‘where it falls short’, but also allows us to incorporate the intuitive sensibilities of anglers into the design process, bringing the rod ever closer to meeting anglers’ expectations.

SVF COMPILE-X Nano Plus

An ultra-muscular blank constructed from significantly reduced resin and a correspondingly high density of graphite fibres. Its high rigidity and tension result in excellent signal transmission, delivering a sensitivity that feels as though you can feel the fish in the water. Furthermore, the reduced resin content translates into improved lightness and power, enabling the creation of a far lighter Rod for the same power rating, or a far slimmer Rod for the same power and weight. This blank is indispensable for fishing styles that demand an instantaneous response to bites, offering both acute sensitivity and powerful Rod Butt power. Its slender profile makes it easy to swing through the casting motion, enabling precise casts that never miss the intended spot, whilst its light weight allows for a full day’s fishing. X45 FULL SHIELD

The X45 FULL SHIELD construction utilises a 45° carbon bias weave, applied from the outermost layer—where it is most effective—at the tip of the blank, the area most prone to twisting during actions such as casting, retrieving, hooking and fighting. This dramatically improves torsional rigidity, enabling greater casting accuracy than ever before and allowing the Rod to deliver its full potential.

V-JOINTα

The V-JOINT α was created by utilising a high-strength nano-alloy in the joint section and applying DAIWA’s proprietary precision machining technology, thereby evolving the V-JOINT to be even stronger, lighter and with a smoother bend. For fishing involving repeated casting, making the joint section thinner allows the entire blank to be finished with a slimmer profile, improving both the casting action and handling.

ZERO SEAT

ZERO SEAT is a new design concept for reel seats, aimed at allowing anglers to enjoy fishing to the full, free from stress.

This rod was developed to radically ‘break with’—that is, to shatter—the conventional concept of offshore casting rods.

There are three key performance characteristics required of an offshore casting rod designed for targeting large fish. The first is casting performance that delivers outstanding casting distance and allows for sustained casting.
In casting fishing—whether you’re targeting surface feeding schools or blind casting—the distance you can cast your Lure has a direct impact on your catch.
It goes without saying that having greater distance is a massive advantage.
Particularly when blind casting, the ability to ‘keep casting’ is crucial. On fishing trips away from home, it is common to cast continuously from early morning until evening for two or three days, and sometimes even longer. During such periods, you never know when an opportunity might arise. It simply won’t do if the Rod feels too heavy and you’re too tired to cast.
Secondly, it offers the fighting performance to handle even a once-in-a-lifetime Big One with confidence. When targeting yellowtail amberjack or GT, it is not uncommon to fish in extremely shallow waters with rugged reefs.
When you hook a large fish in such a spot, it requires a fight that is both quite aggressive and yet delicate. With tuna-like species, you want to minimise the physical strain on your body and land the fish as quickly as possible. Put simply, as an angler, you want to ‘lift the fish quickly, reliably and with ease’.
To meet these requirements, the SALTIGA BREAK THROUGH features the ‘SVF Compile X Nano Brass’—a newly designed, high-elasticity blank that is a first for an offshore rod. Its powerful rebound delivers consistent casting distance even with minimal effort, whilst its lightweight construction ensures you can continue casting comfortably for as long as you like.
Furthermore, the strong rebound force resulting from its high elasticity helps to improve lifting power. Yet, thanks to the newly designed taper, the angler does not feel the tension of the high-elasticity blank. Whilst this is a challenging situation that demands composure and skill on the part of the angler, if the Rod’s performance can provide even the slightest bit of support in such circumstances, there could be no greater advantage for the angler.

The reel seat features the newly designed ‘ZERO_SEAT’. By eliminating the step that occurs when the reel is mounted, manoeuvrability has been significantly improved. The experience is truly stress-free and utterly exhilarating. Furthermore, the improved grip of the reel seat reduces the side-to-side wobble that often occurs when fighting large fish.
The new grip design is also worth noting. The tip of the front grip is shaped like a trigger to make it easier to hook your fingers around during a fight. The rear grip end features a special shape with an enlarged base area, which helps prevent discomfort even during bare-handed fights without a gimbal, enabling a stress-free and comfortable fighting experience.

Blank

The blank is the SVF Compile X Nano Plus, based on M40X—the first high-strength, high-elasticity material used in a DAIWA offshore rod. It contributes significantly to improved casting distance and lifting power, characteristics unique to a high-elasticity blank. Furthermore, the newly designed taper achieves an exquisite balance that eliminates the tension typically associated with high-elasticity materials.

Reel seat

The newly designed ZERO Seat (Power Hold), developed through rigorous on-site testing.
A seat that eliminates any unevenness when the reel is fitted and offers excellent support. It accommodates any grip style, from the three-finger grip to the zero-finger grip (where all fingers are placed in front of the reel foot). Casting and Lure control are a truly exhilarating experience.

New-design grip

Protrusions have been added to the EVA on the fore-end to improve grip, whilst the rear end has been cut at an angle to increase its surface area, thereby significantly reducing the pain felt during gimbal fights when the rod is pressed against the abdomen. Furthermore, as a welcome side effect, this makes the rod easier to grip during casting and ensures that power is fully transferred to the reel, helping to increase casting speed.

The reel seat features an RV guide that allows the line to run through smoothly. It also features a double-wrapped blue gradient finish in the style of a custom rod, making it instantly recognisable as a BT even from a distance.

The protrusions on the EVA grip at the fore-end allow you to grip the rod firmly without it slipping when fighting a fish with the rod held upright.

With its slightly shorter length, this rod is ideal for the Sotobo coast where undercasting is the main technique, and for the spring yellowtail season when smaller lures are frequently used, offering excellent manoeuvrability.
C83-6	A model suitable for use with PE line sizes 4–6 and lures weighing 60–130g (approx. 180–230mm). Compatible reel sizes: 8000–14000. The standard model for yellowtail amberjack fishing areas on the Sea of Japan side, such as the Genkai Sea off Kyushu, Yamaguchi and the waters off the Noto Peninsula. The overwhelming casting distance and nimble handling provided by the high-resilience blank leave other anglers in the dust. It also excels in GT fishing where distance is key, using finer lines at spots with a certain depth.
C710-8	A model suitable for use with PE lines of 6–8 and lures weighing 80–160g (approximately 200–250mm). Compatible reel sizes are 14000–18000. Designed for targeting yellowtail amberjack and GT that prey on large baitfish. Although a power model, its shorter length allows even anglers who lack physical strength to cast large plugs with confidence. Even during close-quarters battles in extremely shallow areas, it allows you to lift fish quickly and powerfully, whilst minimising the physical strain on the angler. Truly a rod that allows you to lift fish ‘quickly and effortlessly’. It is the ideal choice for targeting yellowtail amberjack, as well as for the big bait game that has become increasingly popular in recent years.
C82-8	A model suitable for use with PE line sizes 6–8 and lures weighing 80–160g (approximately 200–250mm). Compatible reel sizes are 14000–18000. Designed for yellowtail amberjack fishing, where casting distance is paramount when using large topwater plugs—such as those used for mahi-mahi—and for GT fishing in shallow areas where long-distance casting is key. Despite being a power model, its exceptionally nimble handling fully supports the angler’s keep-cast technique, even when using large lures. Naturally, the newly designed taper ensures that the high elasticity of the blank is neither felt as excessive tension nor as excessive length, significantly reducing the physical strain on the angler—even when battling monster-sized fish.
C88-6/8	A model suitable for PE lines No. 6–8 and lures weighing 60–150g (approximately 160–230mm).With a long blank, the tip section is set to 6 power and the Rod Butt to 8 power, making this model ideal for Long Casting with small lures to target large yellowtail amberjack feeding on small baitfish. The ultra-lightweight blank, unique to BT, boasts a level of manoeuvrability that completely overturns conventional notions of long rods. Suitable reel sizes: 14000–18000.
C81-10	A model suitable for PE line sizes 8–10 and lures weighing 100–200 g (approx. 220–300 mm). It is designed to target monster yellowtail, which are growing larger every year, as well as large GTs in shallow, rocky areas such as reefs and overseas areas.This model is specialised for a style based on the ease of casting heavy lures designed for large baitfish, and a powerful fight that ensures the angler retains complete control at all times after the strike. Suitable reel sizes: 14000–20000.

I would recommend this as an all-rounder for the Sotobo coast

I believe the SALTIGA BREAKTHROUGH C80-5 is a truly versatile rod for casting for yellowtail amberjack off the Oga Coast. Whilst lures of around 160 mm are commonly used for yellowtail casting in the Oga region, there are times when smaller lures are preferable, whilst on other occasions larger lures of around 220 mm can be effective. To cope with all situations, I recommend a rod with a wide range of applications. With its relatively short length of 8 ft., the C80-5 is well-suited to underhand casting and can certainly be considered the best choice.
　The blank, for a start, is superb, as is the Rod’s inherent performance. It is the first offshore rod to feature SVF COMPILE-X nanoplus. It offers the casting distance and lifting power characteristic of a high-modulus blank. That said, it is not a rod that feels stiff or brittle. Thanks to its excellent balance, it is easy to cast and has superb line release. I tried standing the rod upright and bending it, and found the blank to be remarkably sticky, with considerable lifting power. It certainly has the potential to lift even large yellowtail amberjack weighing over 20 kg with ease.

Of all the various technologies available, my favourite is the reel seat. The newly designed ZERO_SEAT (Power Hold) feels absolutely brilliant in the hand. Its oval shape makes it easy to grip, and it fits perfectly across the whole palm. It features a smooth, tapered design that wraps around the reel foot from front to back with no sharp edges, providing an excellent grip. It also makes casting and Lure handling comfortable.
The design around the grips is also distinctive. The end of the rear grip is cut at an angle, which helps prevent discomfort when pressing it against your groin or stomach whilst fighting. It’s also easy to grip with your back hand when casting. The front grip is also thoughtfully designed. It features a raised section where you can hook your index finger when gripping it during a fight, providing an excellent fit. It’s a grip that resists slipping and makes it easy to apply force.
The SALTIGA BREAKTHROUGH C80-5 is what you might call the flagship model. Everything—from the blank material to the components—is of the very highest quality. Each individual piece of technology and feature is superb. It also has a luxurious look. It’s elegant without being too subdued, and I think it’s a really stylish Rod.

A long rod combining the manoeuvrability of a No. 6 PE rod with the power of a No. 8 PE rod

As someone who enjoys casting for yellowtail amberjack in the Hirado, Goto and Kita Kyushu areas, I would say that the SALTIGA BREAKTHROUGH C88-6/8 is my go-to rod throughout the year.
　This is a rod I proposed in response to a request asking, ‘Is there a particular rod you’d like to make?’ Put simply, the tip section is a No. 6 PE rod and the Rod Butt is a No. 8 PE rod, combining manoeuvrability with power.
　One of the key features of this rod is its length of 8ft 8in. In terms of manoeuvrability and Lure action, I wanted a longer Rod to achieve the ideal action. The strength of a long Rod lies in the freedom it offers in terms of the distance the Lure travels when jerked, and the ability to control it over long distances whilst incorporating reeling.
　Whilst it does result in greater casting distance, the 8ft 8in length is less about maximising distance and more about achieving the lure action I’m looking for.
I think long rods are often perceived as being heavy or difficult to handle, but thanks to the BREAKTHROUGH’s unique lightness and the sensitivity of the blank, this rod is easy to manoeuvre and allows you to feel the Lure’s movements with great sensitivity.
　I’ve always been a fan of long rods. I love watching the way a long rod bends. I’m particularly fond of the beautiful bend of the C88-6/8.

A No. 10 PE rod that defies conventional wisdom and can be used as your main rod

　The C81-10 is a rod I designed specifically with PE10 line in mind. I think many people have the impression that, until now, most PE10 rods were intended for anglers who are fairly experienced, have the strength to handle a powerful rod, and possess a well-trained physique. However, this time I decided to have a PE10 rod made that would suit me personally. I believe I have a fairly average build, even amongst those who practise yellowtail amberjack casting. My aim was to create a PE10 rod that I, with my build, would find incredibly easy to use.
　If we were to imagine that previous rods operated on the principle that, for every 10 units of effort put in by the angler, the rod would deliver 10 units of performance in return, we aimed to create a rod that generates 10 units of energy even when the angler puts in only 6 units of effort. I believe the C81-10 is a rod that could only have been created as part of the BREAKTHROUGH series. After all, it is the M40X material and the SVF COMPILE-X nanoplus blank that enable it to deliver this level of energy.
　I think PE10 rods have traditionally been seen as something you’d only reach for when it’s a make-or-break moment. It was very difficult for the average angler to cast with one all day long. I believe the BREAKTHROUGH C81-10 is a rod that’s good enough to take with you as your main tackle all year round. I was genuinely impressed myself, and I think it’s finished to such a high standard that I can say it overturns conventional wisdom about PE10 rods!
