Transforming anglers’ passion, smiles and dreams into the strength of our reels.

How do we build a robust reel that anglers can rely on?――

A reel with high rigidity, designed to reliably and safely land unknown targets when that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity arises.
A highly durable reel that continues to perform to its full potential over the long term, even in harsh natural environments.
How can this be achieved in a way that exceeds anglers’ expectations?

The answer we arrived at to our own question was to tear up the drawings we had produced up to that point. It must not be merely an improvement. We must start with a clean slate and draw everything from scratch.
Leaving the past behind and pressing forward with single-minded determination. Every single member of the development team takes the expectations of the anglers to heart.

2025—SALTIGA has been reborn.

At the heart of this lies POWERDRIVE DESIGN. It is the design philosophy behind the next-generation large-capacity spinning reel, developed to deliver the high level of reliability required to confidently take on large fish from around the world. It is a new technology designed to fulfil the mission entrusted to SALTIGA. In short, it is the very essence of SALTIGA.
This POWERDRIVE DESIGN comprises two technological units: the body unit [POWERDRIVE ENGINE] and the rotor unit [POWERDRIVE ROTOR].
The [POWERDRIVE ENGINE] comprises two technologies: the [Oversized Power Digi Gear], featuring a larger diameter, and the [ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION] system, which utilises ball bearings. By housing these within a ‘Full Metal (AL) MONOCOQUE BODY’—which has been enlarged to prioritise strength—the system delivers light, responsive start-up and a more efficient, powerful reeling force right from the outset.
Based on this [POWERDRIVE ENGINE], the front unit comprises a [POWERDRIVE ROTOR] made from aluminium (AL). Its streamlined spherical shape achieves further increases in rigidity whilst maintaining low Inertia. The synergistic effect of the [CRANK POWER BAIL] and the [TOUGH LINE ROLLER SYSTEM] mounted on this rotor enables precise line delivery and a smooth transition to the reeling action.
As part of a review of the reel’s fundamental design philosophy, the drag mechanism has also been completely redesigned. Models up to the 14000 series feature the ATD Tough system, comprising a total of 14 carbon and metal washers, whilst models from the 18000 series onwards are equipped with the new ‘DRD’ drag mechanism. This entirely new mechanism features a single Plate fitted with eight metal rollers, which suppresses the reduction in Drag Force caused by frictional heat. It maintains a smooth release even during big-game fishing, where prolonged fights are inevitable.
We have also refined the reel’s Long Casting performance. Even in adverse conditions, anglers want to cast their lures as far as possible. To meet this expectation, we have redesigned the conventional LC-ABS system and developed the new LC-ABS SW, which features a two-stage tapered profile on the upper surface of the spool’s line-winding section, tapering towards the spool ring. This reduces line friction, helping to add that extra bit of distance during the latter stages of the cast.
On the big-game fishing grounds, there is an extremely high risk of saltwater ingress due to waves splashing over the reel and the sea breeze. For this reason, MAGSEALED technology has been fitted to the three rotating parts: the Line Roller, the Pinion and the handle shaft. This makes it the only large spinning reel to be fully waterproof.
In addition to the existing 8000, 10,000, 14,000, 18,000 and 20,000 models, the range has been expanded to include the newly developed 25,000 and 30,000 models. Designed to deliver the line capacity, power and reeling speed required to catch super-large fish—such as giant bluefin tuna—these models have met the high expectations of the top anglers who lead the big-game fishing scene.

So that we may face the oceans of the world head-on, without hesitation.
As your ideal partner, we hope you’ll continue to use our products for years to come.
So that as many people as possible can catch a record fish―

Transforming anglers’ passion, smiles and dreams into the strength of our reels.

SALTIGA’s new challenge begins here.

DAIWA Technology

MONOCOQUE BODY
Robust and durable technology: the MONOCOQUE BODY. Conventional spinning reels typically featured a design in which the drive gear was supported at both ends by the body and the body cover, and secured in place with several screws. Aiming to further improve precision and rigidity, the MONOCOQUE BODY eliminates the body cover and instead secures a high-precision plate directly to the body by screwing it in. This has enhanced the precision with which the gears are supported, whilst also improving rigidity and airtightness. Furthermore, by utilising the space previously occupied by screws, we have succeeded in maximising the size of the drive gear to the absolute limit. The term ‘MONOCOQUE BODY’ derives from ‘MONO’ (one) and ‘COQUE’ (shell). This entirely new design, symbolising the resilience of a single-piece shell, shatters conventional wisdom regarding reel construction.
Features a full-metal (aluminium) MONOCOQUE BODY. The high-rigidity, lightweight and compact housing accommodates the largest-diameter Tough Digi Gear.
POWERDRIVE DESIGN
The POWERDRIVE DESIGN is a design philosophy for next-generation large-capacity spinning reels, developed to deliver the high level of reliability required to confidently tackle large fish from around the world.

This POWERDRIVE DESIGN comprises two technological units: the body unit [POWERDRIVE ENGINE], which delivers high efficiency and powerful reeling force, and the rotor unit [POWERDRIVE ROTOR], which features a streamlined spherical shape that achieves both high rigidity and low Inertia.

The [POWERDRIVE ENGINE] in the body unit comprises two technologies: [OVERSIZED POWER DIGIGEAR] and [ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION].
[OVERSIZED POWER DIGIGEAR] significantly improves gear drive efficiency through larger diameters, thicker walls and an optimised tooth profile.
[ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION] utilises a bearing system in its oscillation mechanism, significantly reducing frictional resistance and thereby improving initial response and ensuring smooth reeling.

Meanwhile, the front unit consists of a [POWERDRIVE ROTOR] incorporating two technologies: the [CRANK POWER BAIL] and the [TOUGH LINE ROLLER SYSTEM].
The [CRANK POWER BAIL] not only enhances the force required to open and close the bail, but also utilises a crank-shaped design to ensure reliable line feed to the line roller.
The [TOUGH LINE ROLLER SYSTEM] has improved durability and reliability by redesigning the support structure and shape of the line rollers.

The synergy of these technologies delivers exceptional levels of rigidity, power and durability for Casting and Jigging techniques targeting large fish. We bring the ‘strength’ needed to land the catch to all anglers who love big-game fishing.
*The 25SALTIGA is fully equipped with POWERDRIVE DESIGN’s Oversized Power Dig Gear, ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION, CRANK POWER BAIL and TOUGH LINE ROLLER SYSTEM.
POWERDRIVE ENGINE
The body unit that delivers high efficiency and powerful reeling is the [POWER DRIVE ENGINE]. This [POWER DRIVE ENGINE] comprises two technologies: the [OVERSIZED POWER DIGIGEAR] and [ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION]. By further maximising the large diameter of the drive gear—made possible by DAIWA’s unique MONOCOQUE BODY—whilst simultaneously revamping the oscillation mechanism, it delivers a distinctly light yet powerful reeling right from the very first turn.
OVERSIZED POWER DIGIGEAR
The MC Tough Digi Gear, made from G1 duralumin and renowned for its high durability, has been further enhanced in bore diameter and wall thickness, resulting in an unprecedentedly robust gear. Even during prolonged, high-load fights, flex is minimised as much as possible, ensuring the gears always mesh smoothly. By significantly reducing power transmission loss, it guarantees a smooth and responsive reeling experience.
*Features G1 duralumin MC Tough Digi Gear. Compared to the 20SALTIGA, the bore diameter is approximately 10 per cent larger and the wall thickness is approximately 6 per cent greater. Based on our calculation method.
ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION
When battling large fish under constant heavy load, the frictional resistance generated by the oscillating mechanism during reeling leads to a loss of power transmission. To minimise this friction as much as possible, the sliding mechanism has been changed from the conventional pillar-type to a two-bearing oscillating system. This has improved oscillation efficiency by approximately 30 per cent, delivering smooth initial response even under heavy load, as well as light yet powerful reeling. *Based on our in-house comparative tests.
*The 25SALTIGA features a two-ball-bearing oscillating system.
POWERDRIVE ROTOR
The front unit’s [POWERDRIVE ROTOR] features a streamlined spherical design that achieves both rigidity and low Inertia. It comprises the [POWERDRIVE ROTOR], which incorporates two technologies: the [CRANK POWER BAIL] and the [TOUGH LINE ROLLER SYSTEM]. The unique rotor shape, which appears as though it has been carved from a sphere, maintains symmetry and excellent balance relative to the axis of rotation, ensuring high rigidity against unexpected external forces. The bail and line rollers fitted to this rotor have also been redesigned, enabling precise line delivery and a smooth transition to the reeling action.
*Manufactured from aluminum.
CRANK POWER BAIL
In big-game fishing, the ability to instantly reel in the line, whatever the situation, is of the utmost importance. The bail design, featuring a Crank mechanism at an optimal angle, combined with a reinforced spring mechanism, reliably guides the taut line onto the line roller and prevents unexpected opening or closing. Furthermore, the hollow-pipe structure, finished with a thick shaft, ensures high rigidity.
TOUGH LINE ROLLER SYSTEM
The roller shaft, designed with a larger contact surface to withstand repeated heavy loads, has been integrated with the bail arm. This eliminates the play that previously occurred at the joint, resulting in a significant improvement in durability. Furthermore, the newly designed line roller, specifically for PE, reduces frictional resistance with the line, enabling smoother reeling. This robust new mechanism significantly enhances rigidity, durability and trouble-free performance.
*Regarding the line roller, the 25SALTIGA is fitted with a model designed exclusively for PE line (non-Twist Buster) that reduces line friction. As using monofilament line (nylon, Fluoro, etc.) can lead to line tangles and other issues, we recommend replacing it with a line roller for monofilament line (Twist Buster specification), which is available as a repair part from SLP (sold separately).
DRD
The DRD is a completely new drag mechanism designed to withstand the repeated, prolonged runs of large fish, whilst preventing wear, damage and seizing at high drag settings. Replacing the carbon washers used in conventional drag systems, the DRD washer features a single metal plate fitted with eight metal rollers. This minimises the reduction in Drag Force caused by frictional heat and offers durability that is more than five times that of carbon washers (*based on our in-house comparative tests). Furthermore, it contributes to a smoother initial release.
*Fitted as standard on models 18000–30000. Models 8000–14000 are compatible with the SLP WORKS SALTIGA spool DRD14000 (to fully utilise the DRD’s performance, the drag knob must be replaced with the SLP WORKS SALTIGA DRD Radiation Knob (sold separately)).
ATD TOUGH
The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. The ATD TOUGH features carbon washers, delivering exceptional durability. Designed to prioritise smooth engagement and responsiveness, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without worrying about drag settings.
MAGSEALED
DAIWA’s unique waterproof design creates a barrier of magnetic oil between the body and the rotor to prevent the ingress of seawater, dust and other contaminants.
*Fitted to the Pinion, Line Roller and both ends of the Drive Gear.
MAGSEALED LINE ROLLER
The Line Roller is the component that directly comes into contact with the water and sand picked up by the line. Enhancing the water resistance of the Line Roller under these harsh conditions helps to maintain its initial performance, such as rotational feel and sensitivity; it drastically reduces the build-up of salt and foreign matter, and the improved rotation also helps to minimise line twist.
LC-ABS SW
Whilst the LC-ABS achieves smooth line release by optimising the spool ring shape, the LC-ABS SW features a two-stage tapered design on the upper surface of the spool’s line-winding section, tapering towards the spool ring. This reduces frictional resistance with the line as it is released from the deeper sections of the spool, delivering a smooth casting feel whilst further enhancing line release performance during the latter stages of the cast. In particular, when using thick line—where the diameter of the line on the spool changes significantly during the cast—this contributes to an increase in casting distance of approximately 2 per cent. It helps anglers achieve their goal of casting further. *Based on our comparative tests.

Body with no stoppers
The body structure has been simplified by removing the stopper. The decision to remove the stopper—which acts as a pathway for water and foreign matter to enter—not only enhances water resistance but also minimises the risk of sudden malfunctions that could occur in the harsh environments and during the fight with the Big One for which the 25SALTIGA is designed.
Manual Return
To completely prevent the bail from returning during casting and to improve durability, a manual return mechanism has been adopted which ensures the bail does not return when the handle is turned.

*Points to note when reeling line*
When reeling the line, we recommend reeling it at the tension levels listed below.
・PE No. 3–5: 1 kg
・PE No. 6–8: 1–1.5 kg
・PE No. 10 or higher: 1.5–2 kg
・Nylon line, including the reeling: 500g or less
Please take care not to apply too much tension to the spool.
Reeling the line at a tension higher than that recommended may cause the spool to become misshapen or break.
*The reel capacity is a guide only and may vary depending on the manufacturer, items and line tension.
*The retrieve length is the amount of line wound in with each handle rotation.
