The KOHGA IC 150-C, compatible with DAIWA CONNECTED, has been launched as the standard size for the Tairaba game.
The design philosophy that forms the cornerstone of this Tairaba reel incorporates ‘Hyper Drive Design’, a next-generation baitcasting reel technology. In the KOHGA IC 150-C, rotational performance has been enhanced by increasing the tooth width of the ‘Hyper Drive Digi Gear’—the core component of the Hyper Drive Design—thereby achieving smooth rotation across the entire load range, from low to high. Combined with the 130mm AL crank handle, this achieves a high standard of winding performance—the most crucial aspect of tairaba fishing. Aluminium alloy is used for the frame, the side plate on the handle side and the set plate, ensuring body rigidity that provides peace of mind even when fighting large fish or engaging in deep-water tairaba fishing, where high loads are to be expected. The drag system features ATD, which widens the adjustment range in the low-drag zone most frequently used in tairaba fishing. Furthermore, the adoption of synchronised level-wind and electronic drag sound ensures smoother line release. This enables a more confident and controlled fight than ever before.
Furthermore, by connecting to a smartphone, anglers can monitor the winding and sink rates—key factors in the tairaba scene—in numerical form. This enhances the reproducibility of the strike speed. It also makes it easy to gauge the depth of the tairaba when drifting, resulting in a reel that offers significantly enhanced performance. With its substantially improved core performance and compatibility with DAIWA CONNECTED, the KOHGA IC 150-C is set to become a leading model in the tairaba scene.

DAIWA Technology

HYPERDRIVE DESIGN
A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.
HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR
A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.
Furthermore, the HYPER Digi Gear on the KOHGA IC 150-C features a wider tooth profile. It delivers smooth rotational performance across the entire load range, from low to high.
HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT
A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.
HYPER ARMED HOUSING (FULL AL)
A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined winding feel and power. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential; combined with the side plates and set plates, this ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.
In this series, aluminium alloy is used for the frame, side plate (on the handle side) and set plate. This delivers high winding performance that is on a par with that of round reels.
HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.
ATD
The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. Designed to minimise slippage and ensure excellent tracking, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without having to worry about drag settings.

Other Features

SYNCHRO LEVEL WIND
A mechanism whereby the level wind’s left-to-right reciprocating motion is synchronised with the spool’s rotation, both during the descent and reeling of the rig. Not only does this ensure the line remains neatly wound, but the movement during descent also facilitates a smooth descent of the rig.

Electronic Drag Sound
‘Smoother than ever. High-performance drag for next-generation Baitcasting reels.’

A function that detects spool rotation and signals the engagement of the drag with an ‘electronic beep’.
The conventional click mechanism (mechanical structure) plays a vital role in conveying the drag’s operation to the angler. However, physical resistance was generated within the ratchet mechanism and the sound-producing pin mechanism located inside the drive gear.
By removing this mechanical mechanism and incorporating an ‘electronic drag sound’, it has become possible to achieve both smooth drag performance and a more audible drag sound.

130mm aluminium handlebar arm for lures
‘Handle arms and knobs designed to help you sense changes in the current, ideal for constant-speed reeling.’

With a focus on winding performance, the handle has been redesigned as a long handle—ideal for constant-speed winding that prioritises sensitivity to detect changes in the current.
The 130mm long handle, in particular, is a special specification designed to eliminate the increased effort required when reeling in, which is a consequence of the higher Gear ratio.
