The X45 FULL SHIELD construction utilises a 45° carbon bias weave, applied from the outermost layer—where it is most effective—at the tip of the blank, the area most prone to twisting during actions such as casting, retrieving, hooking and fighting. 3DX is a support structure that demonstrates its effectiveness by focusing on resilience. A honeycomb structure, which offers excellent stability and resilience, is incorporated into the outer circumference to enhance the Rod’s ability to regain its original shape. Every time the Rod bends, it is subjected to stress, causing its cross-section to deform into a slightly flattened shape. The greater the force that returns it to a perfect circle, the higher the resilience; this helps to minimise Rod Tip wobble, thereby improving casting stability and increasing casting distance.

MEGATOP is a carbon solid in which fibres and resin are uniformly dispersed, exhibiting the same degree of flex in every direction. As a result, its strength is dramatically improved compared to conventional carbon solids. This makes it possible to create a rod tip that is slender, flexible and highly tapered, resulting in a rod tip that not only offers excellent sensitivity through the rod but also provides superior visual sensitivity, allowing the angler to detect even the slightest bite.

The key to this lies in a structure where the blank—which normally runs through the centre of the reel seat—has been deliberately offset downwards. This ensures excellent compatibility with all baitcasting reels and delivers a more compact palming performance.
Although Kawamura had set a new target, there was one design constraint for the BLX: like other reel seats, the blank had to pass through the centre of the reel seat. This was an unavoidable requirement in the development of the new BLX reel seat, and an offset design was not permitted. A natural grip that eliminates any sense of discomfort
‘When your palm and fingers come into contact with the reel seat, there are no awkward curves or gaps. This allows for a more natural grip.’
The new reel seat featured on the 25 BLX is the ‘ZERO SEAT’. If one were to summarise its benefits in a single phrase, the name itself encapsulates them for both baitcasting and spinning types.
The bait type is the ‘Palm-Fit Trigger’. To further enhance the palm-fit performance, the engineers at DAIWA Works focused on ‘the relationship between finger length and the thickness of the reel seat’ and ‘the difference in diameter between the front and rear sections of the trigger’. The middle finger is the longest, followed by the index and ring fingers; excluding the thumb, the little finger is the shortest. It is also clear that the little finger is significantly thinner than the others.
‘Conventional blank-touch reel seats were designed such that, when using the three-finger palming grip, the longer middle and ring fingers rested on the slimmer sections, whilst the shorter, slimmer little finger rested on the thicker section.’ From an ergonomic perspective, one must admit that this was once an unnatural grip. The engineers at DAIWA Works have adjusted the shape of the reel seat so that the middle finger and ring fingers against the thicker section and the little finger against the thinner section. Furthermore, they have minimised the difference in outer diameter between the front and rear sections of the trigger—a feature previously achievable only with an offset through-structure—to a level rivalling that of an offset Air Beam design, whilst utilising a centre-through structure. By eliminating the discomfort caused by the disparity in finger length and shape during the palming grip, they have achieved a design that prioritises ergonomics. This design sharply addresses a blind spot in reel seat design that only the engineers at DAIWA Works—who have spent many years developing original reel seats—could have identified.
Furthermore, by designing the trigger to be ‘short and wide’, it helps ensure a smooth transition between grips. It has been made wider without being unnecessarily long. ‘As long as your index finger rests on it when casting, that’s enough,’ Kawamura states clearly. It also does not interfere with the trigger when transitioning to the palming grip. This allows you to switch your grip from one finger to two or three fingers instantly and without any discomfort.

The bait type is the ‘Palm-Fit Trigger’. To further enhance the palm-fit performance, the engineers at DAIWA Works focused on ‘the relationship between finger length and the thickness of the reel seat’ and ‘the difference in diameter between the front and rear sections of the trigger’. The middle finger is the longest, followed by the index and ring fingers; excluding the thumb, the little finger is the shortest. It is also clear that the little finger is significantly thinner than the others.
‘Conventional blank-touch reel seats were designed such that, when using the three-finger palming grip, the longer middle and ring fingers rested on the slimmer sections, whilst the shorter, slimmer little finger rested on the thicker section.’ From an ergonomic perspective, one must admit that this was once an unnatural grip. The engineers at DAIWA Works have adjusted the shape of the reel seat so that the middle finger and ring fingers against the thicker section and the little finger against the thinner section. Furthermore, they have minimised the difference in outer diameter between the front and rear sections of the trigger—a feature previously achievable only with an offset through-structure—to a level rivalling that of an offset Air Beam design, whilst utilising a centre-through structure. By eliminating the discomfort caused by the disparity in finger length and shape during the palming grip, they have achieved a design that prioritises ergonomics. This design sharply addresses a blind spot in reel seat design that only the engineers at DAIWA Works—who have spent many years developing original reel seats—could have identified.
Furthermore, by designing the trigger to be ‘short and wide’, it helps ensure a smooth transition between grips. It has been made wider without being unnecessarily long. ‘As long as your index finger rests on it when casting, that’s enough,’ Kawamura states clearly. It also does not interfere with the trigger when transitioning to the palming grip. This allows you to switch your grip from one finger to two or three fingers instantly and without any discomfort.
The Shin reel seat unlocks STEEZ’s untapped potential
As for the ‘Seamless Fit’ spinning reel seat, true to its name, we have sought to achieve a seamless fit. Whilst the fit of the spinning reel seat itself has often been the focus of discussion in the past, this time we have aimed to create an integrated sense between the spinning reel foot and the reel seat. With a spinning reel seat, when the spinning foot is placed on a cylindrical, straight grip, the reel foot protrudes from the grip; as you can imagine, when gripped, pressure is concentrated on the reel foot area. In other words, anglers were constantly aware of the reel foot whilst fishing. Furthermore, conventional reel seats created gaps or steps between the reel foot and the seat, making the presence of the reel foot particularly noticeable. The engineers at DAIWA Works focused on this issue and, to enhance gripping performance, positioned the reel foot so that it appears to be embedded within the reel seat. As evidence of this, there are walls on both sides—where the fingertips and the base of the fingers make contact when gripping—which fill the gap between the reel foot and the seat. This has created a stronger sense of integration with the palm. Furthermore, the bulge in the front hood—which houses the front section of the reel foot via the Air Beam system—has been smoothed out, whilst the area where the index finger rests has been contoured into a reverse-R shape to ensure a comfortable feel and a more natural grip.
