KOHGA IC, the leader in the Tairaba scene, returns with further enhancements

The KOHGA IC150 series of reels for tairaba fishing has been further refined and is now available!
To meet the demands of tairaba fishing, which requires smooth rotation performance across a wide range of loads from low to high, we have refined the ‘HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR’—the core component of the ‘HYPERDRIVE DESIGN’—to enhance rotational performance by increasing the tooth width of the gears. Furthermore, it is equipped with a centrifugal brake that accommodates light undercasts, allowing anglers to cover a wider area when there is no wind or current. Capable of handling a wide range of fishing scenarios, the 26 KOHGA IC150 continues to lead the way in tairaba fishing. Furthermore, to accommodate a variety of situations, the range has been expanded to include three Gear ratios, and the handle specifications have been refined. This is a dedicated tairaba reel that embodies a meticulous attention to detail, designed to make tairaba fishing a more comfortable experience.

DAIWA Technology

HYPERDRIVE DESIGN
A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.
HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR
A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.
This series features a wider tooth profile. It delivers smooth rotational performance across a wide range of loads, from low to high.
HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT
A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.
HYPER ARMED HOUSING (AL)
A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined winding feel and power. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential, and its combination with the side plates and set plates ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.
This series utilises an aluminium alloy frame, resulting in a Tough housing design.
HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.
ATD
The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. Designed to minimise slippage and ensure excellent tracking, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without having to worry about drag settings.

130 mm AL handlebar arm for lures
With a focus on winding performance, the handle has been redesigned as a long handle—ideal for constant-speed reeling that prioritises sensitivity to detect changes in the current. In particular, the 130 mm long handle is a special specification that eliminates the increased reeling resistance resulting from the higher Gear ratio.
Whilst a 65 mm single handle requires a specific technique for constant reeling, the introduction of the 130 mm long handle has made it possible to perform light reeling or constant reeling even in high gear.
Furthermore, the new Power Light Knob M (Medium) has been adopted, which places greater emphasis on finger grip.
Batteries can be replaced by the user
No need to worry if the battery runs out unexpectedly. It is also resistant to scuffs and features a waterproof battery cover. No special tools are required; you can open and close it in an instant with just a coin, allowing you to replace the battery yourself. *There is no need to re-enter the Line settings even if the battery is removed (CR2032 coin cell battery).
Centrifugal brake
In conditions where the FUNE does not drift—such as when there is no wind or no tidal current—a ‘light undercast’ may be used to cover a wider area or to angle the line diagonally.
To minimise backlash as much as possible even in such situations, a centrifugal brake has been fitted.

*Please do not attempt overcast manoeuvres under any circumstances, as they are dangerous.
*Please note that the centrifugal brake becomes less effective as the lure gets heavier. (Up to approx. 80 g max.)
*A ‘sound’ may be produced during retrieval or during the Fall.

■ Depth Alarm

IC counter reels tend to rely on LCD displays for visual feedback.
Developed with a focus on auditory alerts to enhance usability.

● Advanced Depth Alarm
The alarm sound enables you to tackle the Tana section with precision.
One alarm sound every 10 metres, repeated.
Every 10 metres, the alarm sounds once to three times.
Every 10 metres, the alarm sounds between one and five times.
For each of these, the ON/OFF settings can be configured separately for the Fall setting and the winding setting.
It has become easy to gauge the water depth simply by the alarm sound, without having to look at the depth gauge.

● Improvements to the Depth Alarm sound quality
By adjusting the sound settings for the Gunwale stop alarm and the Depth Alarm, you can create a comfortable alarm sound that isn’t too loud, even whilst you’re actually fishing.
*The sound of the gunwale stop alarm will remain high-pitched, as before, to alert people.
