HYPERDRIVE DESIGN

A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.

HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR

A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.

HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT

A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.

HYPER ARMED HOUSING

A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a smooth winding action and powerful performance. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential; combined with the side plates and set plates, this ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.

HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH

Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.

MAGSEALED BALL BEARING

Using its proprietary technology, DAIWA has succeeded in becoming the first in the world to apply MAGSEALED technology to the ball bearing itself. A wall of magnetic fluid prevents water and foreign particles from entering the interior of the ball bearing, thereby significantly reducing rust, salt deposits and abnormal noises whilst maintaining the ball bearing’s inherent rotational performance.

ATD

The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. Designed to minimise slippage and ensure excellent tracking, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without having to worry about drag settings.

Other Features

SYNCHRO LEVEL WIND

A mechanism whereby the level wind’s left-to-right reciprocating motion is synchronised with the spool’s rotation, both during the descent and reeling of the rig. Not only does this ensure the line remains neatly wound, but the movement during descent also facilitates a smooth descent of the rig.

　It all started when I took the early prototype to New Zealand and was reeling in the tairaba. ‘What’s this? It beeps every 10 metres! Does it beep 10 times at 100 metres? (Actually, it only goes up to five).’
The first thing I really liked was the Depth Alarm. It’s absolutely comfortable. I find myself checking the LCD screen less often, which gives me more time to take in my surroundings. A Depth Alarm is absolutely essential, especially for deep-water jigging using the ‘Dotera-style’ drift method, so it’s a real help to be able to gauge the depth both visually and audibly.
　With modern deep-water jigging, you might sometimes need to put out around 300 metres of line, but this reel offers outstanding rigidity and power when reeling it in—even though it’s so compact and light. Naturally, it handles even the Big Ones with ease, and the retrieve feels silky smooth. I could never go back to using any other reel now.

　I’ve been involved since the early stages of development, and I really think we’ve created something truly remarkable. The concept centres on being lightweight, compact, robust and powerful. These are vital elements for maintaining concentration, ensuring a solid feel, and enjoying comfortable Jigging across a wide range of water depths. In every respect, it’s in a league of its own.
　To be honest, I used to be against IC counters. They’re heavy, structurally lacking in rigidity, and even when the display is there, it’s hard to read so I don’t bother looking at it. But the SALTIGA IC has completely overturned that view. It’s as light and strong as a non-IC model, and its basic performance as a reel is so high it’s almost unreal. What’s more, the Depth Alarm function is incredibly useful. There’s not a single reason left to think the IC is unnecessary. As a baitcasting reel capable of fishing in the mid-to-deep sea, this is, quite frankly, the best there is.
