A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. HYPER ARMED HOUSING (FULL AL)
A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a refined winding feel and power. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential; combined with the side plates and set plates, this ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.
In this series, aluminium alloy has been used for the frame, both side plates and the set plate. Featuring a full-metal housing design, it has been fully machined—a process unique to round-shaped designs—to achieve unrivalled strength. Particular attention has been paid to the thumb rest position. We have adopted a thumb-holding frame after careful consideration of the optimal position for the thumb during the fall, when operating the jig, during the fight after a hook-up, and for maintaining a firm grip.
HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.
MAGSEALED BALL BEARING
Using its proprietary technology, DAIWA has succeeded in becoming the first in the world to apply MAGSEALED technology to the ball bearing itself. A wall of magnetic fluid prevents water and foreign particles from entering the interior of the ball bearing, thereby significantly reducing rust, salt deposits and abnormal noises whilst maintaining the ball bearing’s inherent rotational performance.
ATD
The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. Designed to minimise slippage and ensure excellent tracking, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without having to worry about drag settings.

Synchro Level Wind
‘Dramatically improves drag performance.’
A synchronised level-wind is a mechanism whereby, when line is being released, the level-wind synchronises with the position of the line and moves in tandem with it from side to side. The advantage of this is that it minimises resistance during line release. It also enhances the smoothness of the drag when engaged.
Furthermore, the SALTIGA 300 has undergone a structural redesign of its synchronisation mechanism, just like the 21 SALTIGA IC.
In order to achieve a ‘compact’ design, the synchronisation mechanism—which had previously been standard on the palming plate—was redesigned and relocated to the handle.
It is precisely this structure that has been a major factor in achieving the compact design.

‘A line-cutting function that excels in Jigging’
A mechanism for securing the spool firmly in place and locking it against reverse rotation.
When freeing a snag, pulling too hard can damage not only the line but also the gears and ball bearings. However, by using the spool lock mechanism, you can disengage the spool from the pinion gear, allowing you to cut the line without damaging the gears or ball bearings.
It’s easy to use.
1. Move the spool lock lever to the ‘On’ position.
2. Disengage the clutch.

We analysed the gripping styles of various anglers to develop a shape that fits more comfortably in the hand. We developed a ‘thumb-holding frame’ designed to facilitate thumb control whilst minimising the risk of the thumb slipping out.
Comfort has been significantly improved, taking into account the position of the thumb after the clutch is disengaged.
With a completely new way of experiencing the ‘palm grip’, it radically transforms the conventional concept of ‘gripping’.

The long-awaited model update. A Jigging reel that’s always easy to reel in.
Quite simply, reeling in has become a lot easier.
The 25SALTIGA 300 offers reduced reeling resistance not only compared to the conventional SALTIGA BJ, but also compared to the SALTIGA IC. When I first used the SALTIGA 300, I reeled it in without any preconceptions and simply thought, ‘Wow, that’s really light.’ When I asked the product planner why, they explained, ‘The HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR has been improved.’ The tooth width of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR has been increased. They explained that by widening the gear teeth, ‘rotational performance is less likely to deteriorate, and the reeling feel remains smooth from low to high load’.
I don’t really understand the finer technical details myself, but from an angler’s perspective, I could tell straight away that the resistance when reeling in had decreased, making for a much smoother feel. What’s more, it reels in smoothly regardless of whether the resistance is low or high. I think this is a significant improvement.
Once you’ve used the SALTIGA 300, the SALTIGA BJ—which is positioned as its predecessor amongst baitcasting reels without a counter—begins to feel like a reel straight out of the Shōwa era, rather than the Heisei era. It’s not just a step or two up; it has reached an entirely new level.
Even when compared to the SALTIGA IC300—leaving aside the presence or absence of a counter—there are significant differences in the feel of the jerking action and the ease of reeling. Its sturdiness and retrieval power are on a whole new level. The spool diameter is 1 mm larger than that of the SALTIGA IC300. Whilst the spool width remains unchanged, the diameter has increased from 43 mm to 44 mm. Thanks to this change, one turn of the handle retrieves 100 cm of line.
During the video shoot for the SALTIGA 300, we fished continuously for two gruelling summer days and managed to land three yellowtail right at the very end. I believe this shows that it held up well right to the very end. I was amazed at how smoothly and effortlessly it reeled in, even under heavy load. Those two days were so unbearably hot that I’m not sure whether I would have been able to keep jigging right to the end or put up a proper fight had it not been for the SALTIGA 300.

I think the palming performance has improved as well. I use the reeling version, and the fit of my left hand when palming is incredible; it feels great to use and the jigging action is superb. I believe the thumb-holding frame they’ve incorporated plays a major part in improving the fit. It really moulds to the hand.
Up until now, it’s been more of a feeling of ‘holding’ or ‘gripping’, but with this reel, it feels more like ‘resting’ my left thumb on it.
With a flat surface, you really have to grip it firmly, but with a sloped surface, you don’t need to grip it tightly—you can just rest your hand on it. It’s as if your thumb catches on it, or rather, it just fits into place, like a lock. I have rather small hands, but it feels as though I’m holding something much smaller than a size 300. With this, I’m less likely to get tired even during long fishing sessions.
It’s not just the SALTIGA 300, but one thing I really like about the grip is the front pillar that covers the lower part of the level wind. You can hook your index finger over it and grip it firmly. I particularly like the SALTIGA 300’s front pillar because it allows for a firm grip.
I’ve only just started using it, but I’m confident it will prove durable. I’ve heard that the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, with its wider gear teeth, offers improved durability, so I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces. The built-in anode protection will no doubt prove its worth over time, but it’s certainly a feature that will stand the test of long-term use. I’m confident that this reel is highly durable and can be used with complete peace of mind, even in harsh conditions such as being exposed to seawater.
I’ll be using the SALTIGA 300 extensively for powerful fishing, mainly targeting bluefish.
In my own fishing, I think I’ll be using the SALTIGA 300 mainly for light Jigging around Toba. My main targets will be bluefish, particularly yellowtail. I intend to adopt a powerful style of fishing.
The SALTIGA 300 offers two gear ratios: 1:6.3 for the normal gear and 1:7.3 for the high gear. When comparing the reel capacity with that of the SALTIGA IC300, the normal gear has a reel capacity of 87 cm (2 cm longer) and the high gear has a reel capacity of 100 cm (3 cm longer). In terms of fishing efficiency, being able to retrieve more line is certainly an advantage.
When it comes to choosing the right gear ratio, water depth is the primary factor. Generally speaking, you’d opt for high gear in deep water and normal gear in shallow water. Furthermore, high gear is often used when the fish are active and you’re reeling quickly or with a high-frequency retrieve; conversely, normal gear is frequently used when the strike zone is narrow—and the fish won’t bite if you reel too quickly—or when the fish are less active.
I’ll also explain how I choose between the SALTIGA IC300 and the SALTIGA 300. Around Toba, my home waters, I’m fairly familiar with the water depths and the topography of the fishing spots, so I think the SALTIGA 300 will be my main reel.
When fishing in a new spot or one I’m not very familiar with, I’ll need to keep an eye on the water depth and the conditions at the fishing spot whilst I fish, so I expect I’ll be using the SALTIGA IC300 more often. In my case, I mainly fish for Cutlassfish, but when targeting the mid-water column, I’ll be using the SALTIGA IC300 because I value its counter function.
Also, in waters where speed is of the essence, I think I’d opt for the SALTIGA 300, which has faster reeling—even if it’s just 2 or 3 centimetres faster. It’s not just that the reeling is incredibly powerful. It’s a brilliant reel that combines a level wind and a Spool lock.
The SALTIGA 300 is a reel designed to deliver one unit of output for every unit of input. It features the newly upgraded HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR with wider gear teeth, which has significantly improved winding power and durability; however, personally, I find the spool lock function particularly appealing.
As for my own fishing, I think I’ll be using it a lot for bottom fishing—such as for bluefish in Akashi and the Sea of Japan, and rockfish in Wakayama and the San’in region. When fishing in the mid-water column, I’ll naturally opt for the SALTIGA IC300.
What’s particularly noteworthy about the SALTIGA 300 is that this size 300 reel, which features a level wind, is equipped with a spool lock. The spool lock offers a significant advantage in areas prone to snagging, such as Akashi and Wakayama.
Modern PE lines are incredibly strong. If you use a reel with a star drag system and press down on the Spool with your finger to cut a line that’s snagged, there’s a high risk of damaging the gears. From the point of view of making the reel last longer, it’s a very useful feature, isn’t it?
We received a particularly high number of requests from skippers in the Akashi area, amongst others. As many anglers find it difficult to manage the line with their fingers when using reels without a level wind, there was a clear demand for a compact reel equipped with a level wind and a spool lock.
Akashi is a spot with strong currents. If your line gets caught under the FUNE, you have to cut it in an instant or you risk breaking your Rod. You won’t even have time to use a snag-cutting tool. I reckon there are spots like this all over the country, so I think this reel will prove to be extremely useful. In other words, it’s not just a reel with the IC counter removed.
As for my own fishing, I think I’ll be using it a lot for bottom fishing—such as for bluefish in Akashi and the Sea of Japan, and rockfish in Wakayama and the San’in region. When fishing in the mid-water column, I’ll naturally opt for the SALTIGA IC300.
What’s particularly noteworthy about the SALTIGA 300 is that this size 300 reel, which features a level wind, is equipped with a spool lock. The spool lock offers a significant advantage in areas prone to snagging, such as Akashi and Wakayama.
Modern PE lines are incredibly strong. If you use a reel with a star drag system and press down on the Spool with your finger to cut a line that’s snagged, there’s a high risk of damaging the gears. From the point of view of making the reel last longer, it’s a very useful feature, isn’t it?
We received a particularly high number of requests from skippers in the Akashi area, amongst others. As many anglers find it difficult to manage the line with their fingers when using reels without a level wind, there was a clear demand for a compact reel equipped with a level wind and a spool lock.
Akashi is a spot with strong currents. If your line gets caught under the FUNE, you have to cut it in an instant or you risk breaking your Rod. You won’t even have time to use a snag-cutting tool. I reckon there are spots like this all over the country, so I think this reel will prove to be extremely useful. In other words, it’s not just a reel with the IC counter removed.
