The next-generation versatile model of the STEEZ—the ultimate machine featuring the first-ever CT (COMPACT & TOUGH) SV Spool—makes its debut.
With its new ‘CT’ (COMPACT & TOUGH) concept, the STEEZ has evolved even further. It features a compact body and is fitted with a φ30mm G1 duralumin CT SV spool. The CT SV spool, which delivers outstanding initial line speed, not only offers versatile performance but also covers the realm of finesse fishing, delivering a casting feel that surpasses anything seen before. The smooth reeling experience inherited from the STEEZ SV TW is the result of the G1 duralumin machine-cut drive gear. Furthermore, the new ‘TWS’ system, tailored to the 700-size spool, works in synergy with the ‘SV CONCEPT’ to deliver astonishing accuracy. The CT SV pioneers a new style of versatility.
In 2016, the SV—a versatile model symbolising the new generation of STEEZ—was launched. It is still fresh in our memory how its extreme specifications—combining overwhelming lightness with even greater Long Casting performance and trouble-free operation—captured the world’s attention. The following year, in 2017, the ‘A’ model was launched under the ‘Tough’ concept. Its Super Metal Housing provided a solid sense of rigidity, whilst its robustness—capable of withstanding the rigours of heavy-duty use with thick line—paved the way for a new era in which the STEEZ series truly came into its own.
Then, in 2019, the third STEEZ baitcasting reel—the CT SV—was finally unveiled. Featuring a completely new, compact body that sets it apart from the existing two models, it is equipped with an ultra-compact, high-performance motor that significantly expands the range of lures that can be used. Here lies the next-generation versatile reel that provides the genuine answer sought by modern Bass anglers and meets the real demands of the fishing ground.
CT = Compact & Tough. The symbol of this new model is the ultra-small-diameter CT SV Spool, measuring a mere 30φmm—the smallest in DAIWA’s history. From lightweight lures to big bait-class lures, the original SV already covers virtually every conceivable bait tackle application. The next-generation CT SV aims for an even lighter class, offering superb high-rotation performance capable of handling rigs weighing less than 5g. Not only is it now on a par with bait finesse reels, but it has also reached a level rivalling that of spinning reels.
The rod is constructed from G1 duralumin. It achieves both high rigidity and light weight, whilst ensuring strength through generous wall thickness. There is no longer any concern about fragility. Centred on the 10–14lb. range, it offers versatility, whilst also allowing you to shift into the bait finesse range by using 6–8lb. lines at times. Furthermore, it is designed to tackle heavy cover using PE line. Within the practical and sufficient 10lb. × 80m limit, you can tackle any situation.
Boasting an ultra-small diameter of 30 mm and exceptional strength, the CTSV spool delivers high rotational power that far surpasses the 34 mm spools fitted to the existing two models. It offers excellent acceleration even with ultra-light rigs, reaching top speed instantly. Combined with the TWS system—which does not impede line release—it ensures smooth, trouble-free casting. It achieves outstanding casting distance even with light swings or compact casts utilising only the snap. It also seems set to help anglers quickly master more skilful techniques such as backhand and flip casts.
The gear ratios are 6.3 for the 700H and 8.1 for the 700XH. With a reeling speed of 59 cm and 76 cm per handle rotation respectively, we have developed these two models to excel in both reeling and casting. We are now fully prepared to tackle today’s tough fishing grounds with greater finesse and a wider range of techniques.

DAIWA Technology
TWS (T-WING SYSTEM)
TWS has succeeded in significantly reducing resistance at the line guide closest to the spool—the point where spool rotation speed is at its highest. By minimising resistance that impedes casting distance, it not only improves casting distance and control beyond previous levels, but also enables a faster fall and reduces Backlash. This realises a new level of line winding capability not only during reeling but also during the casting action.
UTD (Ultimate Tournament Drag)
DAIWA’s drag system eliminates the initial hesitation when the drag first engages, delivering smooth, consistent performance without any jerking, whilst also offering maximum Drag Force that increases the tighter it is set.
ZERO ADJUSTER
By first adjusting the ‘ZERO ADJUSTER’ and setting the ‘Spool Play Zero’ function, the evolution of the magnetic brake system now makes it possible to control all lures using the magnet dial alone.
The ‘ZERO ADJUSTER’ is a mechanism designed to ensure you can enjoy a comfortable fishing experience without any malfunctions whilst fishing, by adjusting it to the ‘zero setting’ before you start fishing.

AIRBRAKE SYSTEM
A braking system that delivers a stress-free experience with minimal Backlash, whilst significantly enhancing accuracy. It provides firm braking during full casts, whilst ensuring that the inductor rotor does not protrude during low-speed actions such as pitching, allowing for low-trajectory shots; thus, it successfully balances pitching and Casting performance at a high level.

Kotaro Kawamura states that, since the sensation caused by the SV Reel, it has had a major influence on the direction of the Rod STEEZ SC series, which he develops himself. The ‘King of the Land’, who has already put it to the test in actual competition, offered a surprising perspective on the CT SV.
‘Whether you use a shallow grip with one or two fingers, or a firm three-finger palm grip. And no matter how you tilt it—vertically, horizontally or diagonally—it offers an outstanding fit with any grip.’
Not only does the all-new compact body fit snugly in the palm of your hand, but its ergonomic design features smooth curves that never dig into your fingers. This comfortable user experience has yielded an unexpected bonus.
‘When fishing with a delicate slack line, you need to maintain a light grip. This is where its effectiveness really shines through. Above all, it’s a great ally in improving casting accuracy. There’s a significant advantage there that isn’t apparent from the specifications alone.’
Kawamura, who knows first-hand the tough nature of a workplace where not a single throw can be wasted, seemed to have already identified a winning strategy in pairing the SC series with his approach.
Meanwhile, what do the tournament pros think? Naoto Kawaguchi, a seasoned player competing in the JB’s top 50, also agrees with Kawamura’s view.
‘The Lure’s trajectory is guaranteed to follow the intended path. When targeting a specific spot, it’s precisely because the Spool spins so smoothly that the cast is spot on.’

‘Inevitably, I find myself using Futoshi lines more often. As a natural consequence, my catch rate has gone up. It’s now become far less common to carry spinning tackle on boats in the Kasumigaura water system.’
