Comfortable handling suitable for any angler, combined with rock-solid rigidity that inspires confidence. Twenty years on from the launch of the first-generation CERTATE, we wish to share this philosophy—which has remained unchanged in every respect—with as many saltwater anglers as possible. The CERTATE SW is a model specifically designed for saltwater use, built upon the CERTATE concept and refined to meet the demands of the marine environment.
It incorporates DAIWA’s proprietary cutting-edge technologies that underpin the CERTATE’s core performance, including the AIRDRIVE DESIGN—the design philosophy behind next-generation spinning reels—as well as an all-aluminium MONOCOQUE BODY and MAGSEALED technology. Building on this heritage, it has been refined to deliver the essential performance required of a model designed exclusively for Saltwater use.
Our primary focus was on rigidity and power. The target species include bluefish, mahi-mahi and flathead sea bass, which typically require the use of No. 2–3 PE line. In such fishing scenarios, one is sometimes forced to battle with Big Ones that exceed all expectations. To cope with this, we have enlarged the MONOCOQUE BODY and increased the wall thickness of the large-diameter drive gear housed within it. Furthermore, the engine plate supporting the gear drive unit has also been made thicker to ensure absolute reliability. As a result, the reel maintains ideal gear meshing even during high-load reeling operations, delivering powerful reeling power with minimal loss.
These optimisations are not limited to the body unit. In the front unit, the use of larger, thicker ZAION rotors has resulted in a rigidity increase of approximately 39 per cent compared to the CERTATE of the same model number (comparison with the LT5000 model). The bail features a manual bail return mechanism, designed with the use of large lures in mind, which controls unintended bail retraction during casting and helps prevent accidents before they occur.
As for water resistance, this model offers improved performance compared to its predecessor, the 21CERTATE SW. When used at sea, the risk of saltwater entering the reel’s interior is significantly higher than in fresh water. Splashing waves and sea spray also increase the likelihood of water ingress. To prevent this, the waterproof seal at the handle mounting point has been improved. Combined with the MAGSEALED Pinion, this achieves a high level of water resistance.

MONOCOQUE BODY

Robust and durable technology: the MONOCOQUE BODY. Conventional spinning reels typically featured a design in which the drive gear was supported at both ends by the body and the body cover, and secured in place with several screws. Aiming to further improve precision and rigidity, the MONOCOQUE BODY eliminates the body cover and instead secures a high-precision plate directly to the body by screwing it in. This has enhanced the precision with which the gears are supported, whilst also improving rigidity and airtightness. Furthermore, by utilising the space previously occupied by screws, we have succeeded in maximising the size of the drive gear to the absolute limit. The term ‘MONOCOQUE BODY’ derives from ‘MONO’ (one) and ‘COQUE’ (shell). This entirely new design, symbolising the resilience of a single-piece shell, shatters conventional wisdom regarding reel construction.

Features a full-metal (aluminium) MONOCOQUE BODY. The high-rigidity, lightweight and compact housing accommodates the largest-diameter Tough Digi Gear.

TOUGH DIGIGEAR

To withstand harsh conditions, a reel needs a robust core to support it. ‘TOUGH DIGIGEAR’ ensures smoother rotation for longer.

The G1 duralumin (ultra-high-strength aluminium) used in the 24CERTATE SW combines strength with lightness.

AIRDRIVE DESIGN

The AIRDRIVE DESIGN is a next-generation spinning reel design philosophy that pursues the ability for anglers to manoeuvre Lures precisely as they wish. The AIRDRIVE DESIGN comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of an AIRDRIVE ROTOR, which ensures smooth reeling and produces highly responsive rotation, alongside a lightweight, trouble-free AIRDRIVE BAIL, a thin-walled AIRDRIVE SPOOL, which has been stripped of all unnecessary material to the absolute limit to achieve maximum lightness; and the AIRDRIVE SHAFT, which supports the main shaft with high-precision bushings and features a non-contact design with the pinion gear, enabling smooth, quiet reeling with minimal rotational noise even under heavy loads. The synergistic effect of these components, combined with improved weight balance within the reel, delivers a high level of manoeuvrability.

*The 24CERTATE SW4000/5000/6000 models are equipped with three components: the AIRDRIVE ROTOR, the AIRDRIVE BAIL and the AIRDRIVE SHAFT.

AIRDRIVE ROTOR

Based on our proprietary theory, we have devised a new shape that appears as though it has been cut directly from a sphere; by then thoroughly trimming away all unnecessary material, we have achieved a significant reduction in weight whilst maintaining rigidity. The ease of reeling has improved dramatically, leading to enhanced manoeuvrability and sensitivity.

The AIRDRIVE ROTOR, a newly designed model manufactured by ZIAON specifically for the 24CERTATE SW, enables crisp, technical lure manoeuvres thanks to its high-response reeling, achieved through a low-inertia, strength-optimised configuration, giving anglers a decisive advantage.

AIRDRIVE BAIL

The AIRBAIL, which has traditionally utilised a hollow-pipe structure to provide rigidity and lightness, has been redesigned with a smaller diameter whilst maintaining the necessary strength, in order to achieve even greater weight reduction. The bail has been set at an optimal angle to ensure the line transitions more smoothly from the bail to the line roller. This delivers even greater lightness and trouble-free operation.

The 24CERTATE SW utilises the optimal bobbin diameter for each size. The 6000 size features a Φ3.0 mm bobbin prioritising strength, whilst the 4000 and 5000 sizes feature a Φ2.4 mm bobbin prioritising ease of use.

AIRDRIVE SHAFT

This system features a linear shaft with a non-contact design between the main shaft and the pinion, eliminating frictional resistance entirely; furthermore, by supporting both ends of the pinion with ball bearings, it maximises the conversion of input power into rotational force. In addition, by supporting the main shaft with high-precision collars, the system thoroughly reduces rotational noise.

MAGSEALED

DAIWA’s unique waterproof design creates a barrier of magnetic oil between the body and the rotor to prevent the ingress of seawater, dust and other contaminants.

In the 24CERTATE SW4000/5000/6000 models, this technology has been incorporated into two locations: the Pinion and the Line Roller sections. This has further enhanced water resistance, durability and rotational performance, achieving a high level of water resistance.

ATD TOUGH

The ATD operates smoothly in response to the fish’s pull and maintains a consistent drag. The ATD TOUGH features carbon washers, delivering exceptional durability. Designed to prioritise smooth engagement and responsiveness, it allows you to concentrate on the fight without worrying about drag settings.

LC-ABS (Long Cast ABS)

Whilst retaining the ABS II design philosophy of reducing contact resistance, the contacts have been moved forward to achieve smoother line release. As the ring section protrudes further forward, the line is less likely to ride up onto the ring; this has resulted in a cast distance increase of approximately 5 per cent compared to the conventional ABS II, whilst also improving reliability. A next-generation ABS spool that delivers LC (LONG CAST).

Product Details

Body with no stoppers

The body structure has been simplified by removing the stopper. The decision to remove the stopper—which acts as a pathway for water and foreign matter to enter—not only enhances water resistance but also minimises the risk of sudden malfunctions that might otherwise occur when using the 24CERTATE 4000/5000/6000 in the harsh environments for which it is designed or when fighting the Big One.

Manual Return

To completely prevent the bail from returning during casting and to improve durability, a manual return mechanism has been adopted which ensures the bail does not return when the handle is turned.

Power Light Knob (Compatible with S-size knobs)

Features an EVA Power Knob L (compatible with S size) for a secure grip and slip resistance.
