The 26STEEZ SV LIGHT TW achieves an even lower trajectory and improved casting accuracy thanks to the spool’s enhanced responsiveness.
The range includes gear ratios of 7.8 and 9.2, the fastest in the series. The 7.8 gear ratio is an all-rounder suitable for both casting and reeling fishing styles.
A gear ratio of 9.2 ensures a reeling rate of 92 cm per full turn of the handle; this not only ensures a smooth retrieve but also proves highly effective for quickly reeling in slack line and pulling fish out from under cover.
The line guide features a tapered TWS design, which, in synergy with SV-BOOST, helps the line travel further during the latter stages of the cast.

The Evolving “SV LIGHT”
In 2018, the SV LIGHT LTD was launched, Supervised by Toshinari Namiki, featuring the first-ever φ32mm SV LIGHT spool. ‘I want it to be as close to a bait finesse reel as possible, whilst retaining the advantages of the SV’—this reel embodies Namiki’s vision. Not only does it offer versatile performance in any situation, but it also delivers a casting feel on a par with dedicated finesse reels. It truly combines the best of both worlds: BF and SV. Eight years on, the 26STEEZ SV LIGHT TW, equipped with a new φ32mm SV LIGHT spool, has been launched. SV-BOOST, which enhances the reel’s momentum during the latter half of the cast; a newly designed low-inertia spool; and Tapered TWS for superior line-release performance—the synergistic effect of all these features has elevated its unrivalled casting performance to new heights. ‘Lightweight lures designed for finesse fishing fly along a low trajectory, as if piercing the air like an arrow. A next-generation design philosophy for Bait (two-axis) reels, which significantly raises the standard of all fundamental performance characteristics with the aim of ensuring that high initial performance is sustained over the long term. The Hyper Drive Design comprises up to four technologies. It requires the incorporation of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which ensures smooth rotation over the long term, alongside HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT, which assists gear drive to deliver powerful yet effortless winding. The HYPER ARMED HOUSING provides robust internal structural support, making it resistant to flexing and distortion. The HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH features an insulated structure that ensures continuous operation even in harsh environments, whilst drastically reducing seizure caused by salt build-up. The synergistic effect of these features ensures consistently stable performance across all fishing environments.
HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR
A newly designed gear system engineered to ensure consistently strong and smooth rotation. This is DAIWA’s proprietary technology, which achieves long-lasting initial smoothness by increasing the meshing ratio without reducing the module (size) of the gear teeth—a factor directly linked to durability.
HYPER DOUBLE SUPPORT
A drive support system that ensures sustained smoothness whilst delivering winding power with effortless reeling. By supporting both ends of the pinion gear with two ball bearings to ensure high precision, it does not dampen the input from the handle, enabling powerful yet effortless winding even under load.
HYPER ARMED HOUSING (FULL METAL)
A case system that firmly supports the internal structure with high rigidity and precision, delivering a smooth winding action and powerful performance. The use of metal for the frame—the core component—is essential; combined with the side plates and set plates, this ensures that the fundamental performance is maintained over the long term.
In this series, the frame and gear-side side plate (handlebar side) are made from die-cast magnesium, whilst the dial-side set plate is made from die-cast aluminium alloy; both are finished with high-precision machining to deliver uncompromising rigidity.
HYPER TOUGH CLUTCH
Not only does it offer crisp on-off performance capable of enduring thousands, even tens of thousands, of sliding cycles, but it is also a clutch system that experiences extremely few problems even in seawater with high salinity. Its cutting-edge insulation structure has already achieved a 99 per cent reduction in the number of repairs for seizing in harsh saltwater environments, compared to our previous models.

A fully ‘contactless’ braking system comprising the ‘MAGFORCE’ electromagnetic induction brake and a ‘variable inductor rotor’ that moves in and out of the magnetic field in response to the Spool’s rotational speed and other factors. TWS (T-WING SYSTEM)
TWS has succeeded in significantly reducing resistance at the line guide closest to the spool—the point where spool rotation speed is at its highest. By minimising resistance that impedes casting distance, it not only improves casting distance and control beyond previous levels, but also enables a faster fall and reduces Backlash. This realises a new level of line winding capability not only during reeling but also during the casting action.
UTD (Ultimate Tournament Drag)
DAIWA’s drag system eliminates the initial hesitation when the drag first engages, delivering smooth, consistent performance without any jerking, whilst also offering maximum Drag Force that increases the tighter it is set.
SV-BOOST
The most distinctive feature of the BOOST mechanism is the two-stage extendable inductor rotor.

G1 Duralumin Spool
G1 duralumin is a special aluminium-based alloy that offers twice the strength of magnesium and 1.3 times that of ultra-high-strength duralumin. This material, which maintains both ultra-lightweight properties and excellent rigidity, is the highest grade of lightweight alloy used in applications such as aircraft structural components and precision equipment. To achieve an overwhelming sense of lightness whilst maintaining the same strength, the spool’s line-winding surface is not blanked but simply thinned, yet still retains ample strength. The high rotational response afforded by its lightness, combined with the unparalleled precision of rotation resulting from its high rigidity, is unrivalled.
Taper TWS
A tapered TWS has been fitted with the aim of reducing line release resistance during casting—in other words, to ‘extend the resistance-free range’.
In addition to expanding the non-contact range, we have sought to maximise line emission performance through the synergistic effect of a special surface treatment known as ‘DLC’.

HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR introduces its first gear ratio of 9.2 to the range
A model with a handle rotation of 92 cm has been added. It not only offers excellent manoeuvrability but also proves highly effective for quickly retrieving Slack Lines and pulling Fish free from cover. It offers a significant advantage, particularly when fishing with a casting technique.
Oil Injection Cap
In line with the sub-brake-less specification, the zero adjuster has been discontinued. The 26STEEZ SV LIGHT TW is fitted with an oil injection cap.
The cap can be removed using the specialised tool provided. Removing the cap allows for lubrication and maintenance of the pinion ball bearing.

Solid-centre pinion
Compared to conventional hollow pinions, the solid-core pinion achieved through UCD (ULTIMATE CASTING DESIGN) is highly resistant to the loads generated when the gears mesh firmly, and offers a strength increase of more than 20 per cent compared to conventional designs for the same diameter and Gear ratio.
By enhancing the strength of the pinion, we have created a high-rigidity gear system that does not rely on increasing the gear diameter, thereby significantly improving the rotational durability of the HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR, which is renowned for its strength.

AL Star Drag
Equipped with a Star Drag system designed to optimise manoeuvrability. Even the ratchet mechanism has been redesigned. Meticulous attention has been paid to the sound of each click, resulting in a crisp, distinct clicking sound when adjusting the Star Drag.

In pursuit of high drag performance for landing big fish, we aimed to be number one in our class not only in terms of maximum drag but also in terms of smooth operation that adapts to the fish’s pull.

To be honest, I’d never had any complaints since I’d fitted a shallow spool to my STEEZ Limited SV TW. But now that I’ve been using the SV Light, even with lightweight rigs, it’s become much easier to cast straight through narrow gaps with minimal effort, without the Lure rising to the surface.
Not only is it easier to cast, but the quality of each cast (i.e. effective casts) improves, which inevitably leads to better catches. From lightweight to heavyweight lures, it casts quietly and accurately.
This SV Light has taken my versatile tackle—which I was already perfectly happy with—to the next level of perfection. It’s the reel that helped me realise its full potential.
