The AGS (AIR GUIDE SYSTEM), which delivers both lightness and high sensitivity, utilises a carbon fibre frame. Thanks to the properties of carbon fibre—which offers approximately three times the rigidity of titanium—it possesses a high level of sensitivity, transmitting even the slightest signals along the line directly to the blank without any loss. Furthermore, the lightness of the carbon fibre contributes to the overall lightness of the rod; in particular, the reduction in weight at the Rod Tip is expected to provide an additional boost to sensitivity.
X45 FULL SHIELD
The X45 FULL SHIELD construction utilises a 45° carbon bias weave, applied from the outermost layer—where it is most effective—at the tip of the blank, the area most prone to twisting during actions such as casting, retrieving, hooking and fighting. Developed in collaboration with testers Shimizu and Konaka, the ultimate slow Jigging rod has been born.
Taper and Length
Although it is the same 6.1 ft as the previous model, the effective length has been increased by lowering the reel seat position. The taper has been redesigned to reduce strain on the angler and provide superior sensitivity underwater.

The Untold Story Behind the Development of the new Reel Seat
The new reel seat (ZERO₋SEAT Active Hold Trigger) fitted to the SALTIGA SJ has been designed to achieve the ideal shape envisaged by tester Kazunari Shimizu.

A word about the reel seat on the new SALTIGA SJ series.
I was approached by DAIWA’s head office with a request to design a new reel seat for slow Jigging. Although I’d worked on the shape of reel handle knobs many times in the past, I felt that designing a reel seat for a Rod was, quite frankly, a particularly challenging task.
We begin by sketching the ideal image we are aiming for.

We begin by sketching the ideal image we are aiming for.
The real hard work actually began once we’d produced the prototypes using a 3D printer. Every day was spent endlessly trimming them down; we’d trim them, send them back to head office for revisions, and then trim them again.
Having been doing this for over eight months, it’s a real struggle to check whether any pain arises when I grip the object even tighter. On long days, I spend up to three hours gripping it with my own hands, constantly checking to see where the pain occurs.
I was desperate to create a reel seat that was completely pain-free—whether it was pain after prolonged palming or pain caused by a sudden tightening of the grip. After all this hard work, I was finally able to complete a reel seat that helps reduce physical strain, allowing the angler to hold it for long periods without pain.
As for the shape of the Foregrip and rear grip, I have rounded off the sharp edges to reduce hand fatigue when reeling in the line and to enhance the sensation of the reel being cradled in the hand during Jigging using the rear grip. Furthermore, regarding the mid-grip—the section where the most force is applied—I have machined it down to its strength limit. I wanted anglers with smaller hands to find it easy to hold and to feel as though the reel is smaller than it actually is; it was with these sentiments in mind that I personally machined it to completion.
